Description
"Get up! Get up! They're attacking the left flank! Go! Go!"I burst out of my Den and ran to the left flank, my sides heaving as my sleepy eyes adjusted to the darkness. They've come again. Just like they said they would. But why now? Why tonight? Then I noticed the moon. It was a huge oval, I gasped when its normal beautiful pearl shade faded to Topaz. What have they done?
I stopped quickly and sniffed the air.
SNIFF-SNIFF
Over there! My nose shouted. I turned sharply and headed into the Bramble bushes. Ouch! Ouch! Ouch! My pelt was on fire! I looked back at my pelt and saw the cuts the Brambles had inflicted on me. Great! Now I'll have to visit the Healer!
I ran for what seemed like hours, and then finally burst into a clearing. Where are they? Come out you vermin!
I crept cautiously into the clearing, expecting a Demon to attack me any second. But, to my surprise, nothing happened.
That's when I heard the bushes rattle. I turned; ready to launch myself at my Attacker, when Ivy walked out from the bushes.
I sighed in relief "Ivy! I thought you were one of those Demon Cats!"
Ivy lifted her head. I gasped. Ivy was covered in blood, from ear to tail. Her beautiful tabby pelt was ripped to pieces, and her once lively green eyes had remorse and fear in them. A deep gash covered the spot where her leaf shaped birthmark had been, and above her eye was a giant scratch. Half of her tail was missing and most of her whiskers were matted and torn.
"Ivy! What happened?" I ran to her.
"The-they were everywhere…I couldn't help him." Ivy breathed heavily.
"Who, Ivy, who couldn't you, help?" I begged.
"Shilo." Ivy burst into tears.
I felt my heartbeat skip the moment she said his name. Shilo was our sweet, playful brother. He had been born without powers, like me. We had found our home together, and we had killed the leader of the Demons together. He was the only other Cat with Powers like mine. Our future had depended on us. We were the only two strong enough to kill a Demon leader.
What will become of the Power Warriors now? I'm the only hope they have left…
Briar shrugged away the thought and knelt down next to her sister. Do we have any chance against them now?
Ivy was damp and sticky. Briar licked her sister, trying to soothe her, knowing nothing could soothe her now. First they had lost their Aunt, now their brother. Ivy was sensitive, everything hurt her. She had a bad conscience. If she stepped on a baby bug she would cry, and then she would try to apologize to the Bugs mother. Ivy had a good heart though. That's why Briar worried so much about her.
Briar sat up, her tail going numb from her sitting on it. She looked at the sky, and sighed in relief when she saw its natural shade returning. She prodded Ivy with her elbow "Look! The Star Ancestors have returned the sky to us. The light is shining through once more; we'll make it another day." I assured her.
Ivy stopped sobbing and looked at the sky "If only Shilo had made it too."
I felt my paws start to grow numb "Ivy-maybe it was his time to die. The Star Ancestors do everything for a reason. He'll be a great addition for them."
Ivy glared at me "You say that as if the Star Ancestors are Herbs that you collect! They are NOT! They are all valued; Star Ancestors know when they want Cats to die. I just can't believe they chose him."
I sighed "I know. I feel like it's me against the World now. Who else is going to help me kill the Demon Leader?"
Ivy stood up and looked at the trees, as if she was afraid another attack would start.
"Don't be scared." I soothed her "I'm here, beside you. No one will ever hurt you as long as I'm around."
She smiled faintly and said "We need to get back; Mom and Dad will be worried sick! Oh…what are we going to tell them?"
------------------------------------------------------------------
"Briar, Ivy! Thank the Star Ancestors that you're okay!" Their parents shouted.
Briar walked over and watched as Ivy nuzzled their parents. Briar didn't really feel close to her parents. She knew they loved her, but they had abandoned her and her brother as kits. She knew they had to, but they didn't exactly have to. They could have left to be with them. But they chose to stay instead, why should she act like their kit? She loved them, but she wouldn't be caught dead trying to buy their affection by crying into their fur.
Her mother looked at her and asked "Whe-where's Shilo?"
I fumbled my paws around in the dirt, and then heard Ivy's sobbing start again. I looked my mother square in the eye and said "The Demons cornered him." I took a long breath "He's dead."
