Description
An idea I had for a way to add a larger dilophosaurus to Ark with some inspiration from Monster Hunter, eventually led to me thinking of a pteranodon variant as well inspired by the great leonopteryx from Avatar.Royal Dilophosaurus
The Royal Dilophosaurus is a different species from those commonly found on the beaches of the island, and as such have several difference, mainly size. Nearly as large as the island’s Carnotaurus but much lighter in build, the Royal Dilophosaurus can make for an amazing all-rounder for tribes.
The increased muscle mass in comparison to their smaller counterparts mean that the Royal Dilophosaurus can actually be ridden, however they make for poor pack mules in comparison to animals of similar size. Once ridden, the large and powerful arms of the Royal can be used for grabbing most animals smaller than a raptor, allowing the rider to transport small tames safely or hold onto prey as the Royal delivers bites into the grappled animal.
While they retain the ability to produce venom, they lack both the frills and ability to spit that Dilophosaurus on the island has become so infamous for. But the venomous bite and powerful arms are a worthy trade off. If coupled with a group of the common Dilophosaurus, they can provide inspiration, allowing the smaller Dilos increased attack speed while nearby.
Royal Pteranodon
Occasionally while flying on the back of a Pteranodon or an Argentavis, a shadow covers the rider and mount alike. Before there is much time to react, the rider will be blindsided and the mount will be knocked to the ground as the Royal Pteranodon holds down the flyer.
Unlike the Pteranodon found commonly in the skies above the island, the Royal Pteranodon is no skittish creature, in fact they seem to have a taste specifically for survivors or perhaps their choice aerial mounts, using their eagle-like eyes to spot the small humans on the back of flyers before swooping down from above.
Aside from the extravagant crests and the exotic colorations, this flyer is surprisingly bulky for a Pteranodon, sacrificing speed for powerful surprise attacks, especially potent against other flyers (most of which are too sluggish to escape)
Once saddled, the Royal can be used to grab creatures just as the standard Pteranodon can, however they prefer to grab with their mouths as opposed to their feet, allowing them to crush prey in their hardened beak even in the air. Similar to birds of prey, they can dive at a surprising speed, surpassing even their smaller relatives when diving, and then they slam down on a target, stunning and forcing all but the largest flyers to the ground where they remain pinned until the Royal decides to take off again.
