This piece is beautiful, and so, so sad! At first glance, it looks like he's holding desperately onto something - the position he's in looks as if he's cradling something in his arms. But once you look at it for another second, you see his empty hands, and how he's staring at them - or what might have been in them - and the whole picture becomes lonely and longing.
