Mmm... My crazed!fandom phases usually result in over-abundance of imagination and end up with OC creations.
Especially if they involve historical costumes and men so sexy they cannot actually exist~ OH JA, BBY.

If only men so sexy could exist, but if they did then the world would most likely combust (if that's even a word). I tend to get obsessed with the canon characters. If I create an OC, they're leaning toward Marty Stu-ish (but not really, as in, I love imagining the character's children

It's all about manner and swagger in approaching the situation. Things like love and marriage and children all happen in reality and are large parts of our daily life, so it is only natural that these paths appear while roleplaying/fic writing.
The difference between a proper character and a Marty Stu is speed, reaction, and timing. You must show patience, and if you can't be patient, there is AU.
For example, my beloved fellow RPer, Haig, was ultra-excited to play with the baby ala her character x Kristjian. Instead of speeding up the process, we kept the assigned date for the child's birth and would do an abundance of 'Getting the baby's room ready' or 'Picking out names- Armenian names vs Romani names' (the RP which created a mass amusement over the unflattering Armenian girls' name 'Shnorgic') or 'Oh dear god, there's not enough chocolate in the house' or 'Oh shit- I'm sick! What if the baby comes out with a disability?' or 'Singing songs to the baby'...
We spent about two solid real-time months on the topic, just coming up with scenes and snippets for how to play with the idea of a baby.
I know Marty Stus who have literally been like 'It's been a day- here's a butt baby! I'm going to name him Ronan Blackeyed Peas Bloody Diamonds. OMG I'm pregnant again!"
...Yeah.

I've seen Marty Stus's like that, too. I have to be honest and admit that I have the patience of a gnat at times and sometimes just START at the child. Once that's out of my system, though, I start over, thinking, "Okay, now I have my fantasy played out, let's be serious now." I only go back, though, if I'm still interested in the idea, but, like I said, patience of a gnat, so I rarely return to it. I sometimes go back later.
(Unflattering? Dude, I would totally name my hypothetical Armenian child Shnorgic
I wish I had RP friends, but my RL friends are mostly dudes and the few female friends I have aren't into that kind of stuff. Then my internet friends: I have very few and they don't really RP.
