I've always enjoyed watching Tarzan from all the way back to the old black and whites (the episode with young Sean Connery is one of my faves) to Tarzan of Greystoke to Disney's version. As I've gotten older though one endearing trait, which I'm certain is just to keep our jungle man eye candy for the ladies, has started to bother me slightly. Depending on interaction with natives and/or others outside the jungle how the hell did he learn to shave? Isn't he supposed to be European? Where's the scruff? The hair?
Why must he always look like a waxed Ambercrombie model?
^.^ Not that I'm overly complaining.
I just think a little scruffiness might add some further appeal to him. Could just be me though.... <<

He started to shave because he didn't want to look like the animals he grew up with. He knew he was a man, and he believed he was turning into an ape when hair began to grown on his face, so he freaked out and learned to cut it off.
Just read the books. They explain a lot and they're (the first one at least) pretty good. You can download the first two for free online cause they're public domain.
