FreeFallHero In reply to ??? [2012-09-12 12:28:22 +0000 UTC]
it's a great drawing ... but ...
there is no reason to hold the bow sideways :/
it would just make it much harder to aim and to shoot
and arrow is a bit awkward
...
but it's still a great piece

It's from the Avengers where he's holding the bow like that: [link]

Avengers made a mistake too ....
holding bow like that is wrong
defies Logics ...

no, they didn't, they made an awesome.
People seem to forget that 99% of archery these days is all hitting a fixed target, when in Avengers, 99% of the archery is situational shooting, when the target isn't fixed, it's running towards him gunning for his blood. In the battlefield you're not gonna stop to check if your elbow is perfectly tucked or your bow is at the right angle, you're gonna take all hail Mary shots, you're gonna tilt your bow and hope to god the shot hits, or else you sir, are dead.
Besides, Hawkeye's never had professional lessons, he learnt from a carnie in a circus named 'TrickShot' he was taught to shoot how he most felt comfortable, not the 'perfect stance' way... which is utter bull anyway.

FreeFallHero In reply to RejectoftheRifts [2012-09-12 14:51:38 +0000 UTC]
truth ... you wouldn't stop to check your elbows ...
because those who end up in battlefield usually have that adopted as a reflex.
Bow instantly lines up
....
...
but what would I know anyways, I don't do archery at all.

it isn't like that, professional archery is all precision, even the perfect archers stop to check the angling of their body and the lining of their bow, THAT is the only thing instinctual about it, checking that everything is lined up perfectly.
Hawkeye wasn't taught professionally, which is why he does better situational rather than professional.
i do actually do archery and it makes me sad when people compare his style to the professional style.

wait a second.
Reason that I don't do archery is because there is no instructors around ... BUT...
I might be able to find my self a Circus dude.
...
Archery ... Here I come DDD

The bowstring is still straight, while his hand is in the position of holding it back and taut, there is also no arrow in the image like there is in the still this is referenced from in the gif. It's absolutely amazing like always, but the hand placement doesn't make sense unless the bow is drawn and an arrow is in waiting.
Still, amazing.

How come he is aiming without tensionating the arc? And where exactly are the end of the arrow that he should be holding to? Not to tell that the perspective of the arrow doesn't match the perspective of the arc...
Nice colors, though...

Well, it's "Fall and Aim" not "Fall and Shoot" but true, the arrow's pespective is odd.

You cannot aim without holding the bowstring and the arrow...

All the "problems" you identified are solved if you realise he just released the arrow a second ago
π: 0 β©: 1
fafadibelo In reply to GreenSprite [2012-09-13 12:11:47 +0000 UTC]
If he just released te arrow, the bow would be different because of the movement of releasing the tensionated bowstring, the hand would've been in another position, fingers would be opening a little... But I'm not saying it's not good, just noticing some points that can be improved.
π: 0 β©: 1
GreenSprite In reply to fafadibelo [2012-09-13 12:17:54 +0000 UTC]
Different like how? I'm honestly asking, I'm not good at drawing bows and I never used one. I agree about the fingers.
π: 0 β©: 1
fafadibelo In reply to GreenSprite [2012-09-13 12:43:34 +0000 UTC]
When you release the bowstring it moves towards the arrow to release the tension, giving the arrow the impulse. The bowstring could be showing that movement... Did you watched Pixar's "Brave"? There is a scene that illustrates perfectly the point i'm trying to make.(I Think it appears on the trailer...)
