Description
These business events never got any more interesting the longer Jen had attended them. But she wanted to be the good fiancé, to support Bruce in this aspect in his life. Even if it means mind numbingly dull conversations with rich business people and their significant others. There were few people here Jen actually knew, beside Bruce and Dick of course. But Bruce was off with some people trying to get a Wayne Enterprise contract, and Dick was off with some friends. So Jen stayed mostly alone. She was fine with it. She was social when people approached her, kind and attentive. But she stayed at their table and mostly just relaxed. Until, that is, one of the few people she knew approached her.
"Jennifer, darling! Oh it's so wonderful to see you here," Janet Drake - the wife of Drake Industries CEO, Jack - said as she approached. Jen knew Janet more than most of these people. She was like their neighbor. Or at least at close to a neighbor they could be. Janet had always been quite welcoming of Jen, compared to some others.
"Janet, how are you doing tonight?" Jen asked with a smile, standing from her chair and giving the woman a hug. It was then she noticed the young boy standing beside her, never having seen him before, "Oh my, and who is this little guy right here?"
"Oh, this is my son Timothy. He's only six so he doesn't normally come to these events, but the nanny had an emergency so he had to tag along," Janet explained. That made sense of why Jen had never met him before tonight. Jen smiled and knelt down in front of him, she preferred to be eye level when talking to kids.
"Well, hello there Tim. My name is Jen," She said with a smile to the slightly surprised child. Most of the people here didn't do this, focus on the kids or get eye level with them. Jen just... wasn't most. Not by a long shot.
"Uh... hi ma'am," He said quietly, contemplating her.
"You don't need to call me ma'am sweetie, you can call me Jen. After all, your mom is a good friend of mine. No need to be all formal, OK?"
That was the first time she saw him smile, a real smile at least, "Yes ma-... Jen."
Jen thinks back to that moment often. To the moment she met who she would consider her youngest son. Her sweet Tim, whom she loves with all her heart. She knew there was something special about him then, he was different than most rich kids. But just how special he was took some time.
---
I mentioned in a group I had this idea about Jen meeting Tim for the first time. It was at an event, and he was just 6 years old. With his mom. And then I remembered that shot of Diana and the little girl so with a little frankendoodling... Tada! Mama bird meeting shy baby bird.
I plan to do her with Dick eventually too. And maybe Jason, but need to plan that out first.
I do not own Young Justice, Tim Drake or Janet Drake. Background is from Batman: Hush. I do own Dr. Jennifer Bleu.
