Description Why is Bruce such a good daddy in Young Justice? Bruce playing a basketball with robins? Seriously? The Wayne family is way better off than these Kryptonians! Or maybe I'm just too used to the dry, bitter Batman in JLA and some comic book issues.

Not that I'm complaining. It's kinda interesting to see the portrayal of Bruce daddy changing over time!

I suppose I just watch a lot of DC animated shows to find this situation to be a bit plausible. (sans the facepalm)

Though, I'm left to wonder... how did everyone get the tar beat of them by Clayface?

Still, I got a good chuckle out this strip. Nice work!

Of course, the DC animated shows are awesome! But I guess Bruce Timm's portrayal of Batman is really stuck into my head.
And on the facepalm...well, this is why we draw fan arts anyway
Why the team let themselves get beaten up by Clayface is beyond me...perhaps this team needs a loooong way to go....

So glad I entertained you! Thx, buddy!

Dude! I keep thinking the same thing xD Like I feel their roles are reversed in Young Justice....AND I LIKE IT : D It's refreshing to see Bruce as the Good cop every now and then.

I'm totally putting a highlight on the word 'reversed'! Batman certainly seems to be playing the good cop, the nanny taking care of troublesome kids, AND a little boy scout packaged in one! Still, I gotta say I don't mind Batman being noticeably more sociable.

Yeah; I'm fairly new to all the details of the DC characters, but from what I'd heard elsewhere I was thinking Batman seems a bit too "nice" in this version. Well, like you said, it's sort of nice.

dovima In reply to JoeMerl [2011-03-08 07:26:26 +0000 UTC]

I'm also little new to the superhero genre  I've recently started re-watching the old shows and reading some comic books. LOL and I thought I'd never come back to JLA ever since I was a 13 year old!
He does seem notably too nice compared to the older series like JLA, JLAU, and Batman Beyond (though I liked him being a grumpy old man in this one ) Perhaps this change compensates for his previously existing gloomy crime-fighter image. Bruce Wayne in Young Justice is certainly more approachable!

i have to agree. seeing bruce be more warm and fuzzy in this series is quite different from the one we are used to in the comics. but i like it.

speaking of like, i am liking the painting style you used here. very different from what i'm used to seeing. very artistic. and i love superboy's facial reaction in his last panel.

dovima In reply to Rock-Howard [2011-03-07 23:33:31 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I guess the trend is to swift Brucie into a warmer guardian figure ever since The Batman in 2008! I'm still getting used to it but I think I'm starting to like it somewhat! It could be the right change to make since Batman by himself is quite too gloomy for cartoons airing in prime time....

And thanks for liking my style! There were some new things I've tried out and I think I like it! Sorta on my way to develop my own style...and Superboy! Haha yeah I love the moments when his eyes open wide in the show! XD

Hee!

(Minor typo: "good cob" - I assume you meant "cop"?)

Personally, I don't have much problem with ComicsVerse Bruce either putting the boys in the line of fire OR being a cold and critical bastard. Neither Dick not Jason was an innocent kid who Bruce dragged into danger; they were both orphans living in a virtual war zone already. And he's a bastard both because he's obsessed with his mission (or he'd have dropped the Batman idea within a few months) AND because he doesn't dare let the boys slack off because it'll get them killed.

Doesn't mean I don't wanna turn Brucie over my knee and spank him when he makes his kids feel like shit, but I do follow his reasons.

On the other hand, I DO have problems with Clark treating Kon like shit; it's so far out of character for our Big Boyscout that it's always felt more like a plot excuse than a believable trait.

Hell, even after the revelations about Lex Luthor's involvement, you just KNOW Clark would be telling anyone else in the same position that it was their heart, not their heritage, that matters. He'd give the kid a nice encouraging pep-talk and leave him feeling all heartened and inspired. But nooooo.....

dovima In reply to NonieR [2011-03-07 09:04:08 +0000 UTC]

GAHH! I made a typo again! Thanks for pointing it out. Can't believe I made such a critical mistake D^8!! The corrected line should appear now.

So now I'm seeing the crisis coming from both the Robins and Mr. Wayne (thanks to you ). Not only the boys themselves are little stray cats to begin with, but also the risk they have to endure as a Batman's sidekick seem to demand high discipline. I like how your interpretation doesn't the side of neither Bruce Wayne and the Robins. Insightful indeed! Also this is one of the reasons I like about Batman series out of many hero sagas since there are no heroes who are glorified! Thank you so much for sharing your thought!

Clark's behaviour towards Kon in Young Justice puzzles me as well. Hopefully this is not JUST a plot gimmick, like you have mentioned. Perhaps the producers wanted to try a different version of Clark, to challenge that boy scout image....but I'm not very sure whether I'm liking it or not!

I haven't seen Young Justice; I'm so much a comicsverse fan that the animated shows and movies don't quite grab me the way they do my friends, alas.

I gather that the animated Batman series had a much more relaxed and cheerful Bruce than the comics; The Te wrote one of her hot and disturbing fanfics based on that contrast, where the comicsverse and aniverse Robin!Tims find themselves in each other's worlds, dealing with very different Bruces (and Gothams) than they're used to.

dovima In reply to NonieR [2011-03-07 23:19:19 +0000 UTC]

I see...Truthfully, my readings so far are very limited to the Batman saga so I don't know how Clark treats Kon in the comicsverse. From what I'm hearing, though, it seems like he's not being treated any better than he is in Young Justice...Why, Sups, why?

Plus I'd better also check that fanfics some time!! They do sound really interesting!

NonieR In reply to dovima [2011-03-09 03:58:10 +0000 UTC]

Actually, I haven't read much Superman vs. Kon myself, since I'm mostly a Batman fan rather than reading much Superman, Superboy, OR Young Justice.

But I gather from comicsverse YJ fans that Superman was pretty hostile to finding out that a scientific lab with dubious connections had created a clone from his cells (without his knowledge or consent) and programmed it with whatever they thought should be in its mind for when it replaced him.

I mean, wouldn't that worry you too?

But that's only half the story, and, as I said, I think a lot of the reason is meta; Clark wasn't written to like or trust Kon because if he had, he woulda pulled the kid into his storyline as a little brother and sidekick. So for Kon to be out with a different group and becoming his own person, the writers needed an excuse why Clark didn't adopt him immediately.

I also hear that Bruce was even less enthusiastic, but I wasn't reading YJ enough to see it in person.

(Unfortunately, I'm very visual, and having been born in 1957 I grew up on comics in a fairly traditional style--you know, John Byrne, Mike Grell, Neal Adams and all. So while I love a lot of new comics and anime in newer styles, whether it's Bone or Hellsing, I'm still hardwired to like my superheroes in a more traditional style rather than goofy cartoons, which is how the YJ comics were being drawn.)

I did once surprise myself by writing a Bruce/Kon slashfic when I was in a quirky mood, though it turned out less dark than I thought it would, thank Ghu!

I don't currently have my fic posted anywhere, but if you happen to be interested, let me know and I'll pass it along.

Shaish [2011-03-07 07:03:13 +0000 UTC]

LOL. XD

And I think they're going with Batman when he was nicer more openly to his wards. I'm thinking after the second Robin's death it sent him to a darker place, he just became more closed off, more intense, and darker in general. But as Dick is the first Robin, he hasn't faced the 'failure' and death of his second Robin, so he's not quite as dark as he became in those line of events.
[/ramble]

It's just my opinion though. I just noticed that Bruce was more..open with Dick, but after Jason died he became..harder, colder, to me anyway.

dovima In reply to Shaish [2011-03-07 07:23:47 +0000 UTC]

That sounds really convincing, too! It seems like Jason's death surely have impacted Bruce's life and his perspective. Your comment makes me want to go back to "Batman: Under the Red Hood" and "Hush"!
I guess my interpretation was a lot more elementary than yours, coming from the death of Bruce's parents....I thought Bruce would be a clumsy dad figure because he wouldn't have had a good chance to be in a 'normal family'. Either or, it's good to see Bruce outside of his own cave

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Shaish In reply to dovima [2011-03-07 09:42:11 +0000 UTC]

Ffff. I haven't read those yet. D; I saw the movie version of Under The Red Hood but I haven't gotten to the comics yet, or Hush which is next on my to get list. <__<

Ooh, yes. I'm sure that plays a part in it too. XD
That and now that I think about it, he's pretty much just done whatever he wants/comes up with as a goal, being responsible for a child must be foreign territory to him. XD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

dovima In reply to Shaish [2011-03-07 17:04:11 +0000 UTC]

Yeah I've only seen the movie as well (gawd, Jason!! *sob*), and I'm on my way of finishing Hush I've bought a several books recently and constantly jumping back and forth! X_x I think it's a neat book because you can have a glance of Bruce's childhood before and after his parents' death. More than that, it also shows how losing important people in his life (including Jason) has affected him. Plus I totally dig the penciler's style...I mean, it's Jim Lee!

Shaish In reply to dovima [2011-03-08 00:37:55 +0000 UTC]

Ditto. OTL
And ooho yeah I'm doing that too. XDD I bought like 20 comics that kind of jump around. Like I got Battle for the Cowl and Final Crisis and the last volume of Return of Bruce Wayne and some Superman/Batman volumes and Lost Days. fdjksl. I'm all over the place. OTL
Ooo that does sound interesting. And yeah, I know what you mean about the penciler's style, I love his art too. XD I have the somewhat matching Superman and Batman posters he did hanging up on my wall, and one with Batman and Robin he did. I love his style.
