Depends on what you consider as "manipulation". I have only converted it to black and white. cropped it a bit and upped the contrast, that's all. The compression effect comes from the focal length of the lens.

If this is a true to life photo, then it is the most insane setup of electrical equipment I've ever seen!

It's definitely a "real" photo, just converted to black and white.
What you see are contact wires at the rather big main station in Cologne. I took this photo with a focal lenght equivalent of 600 mm, hence the optical effect.
