Description
Jason rested his weight on the side of the taxi as he quickly slipped his I-phone from his jacket pocket to check the time. 16:11. His brother was running late again. He looked up and down his street giving it probably another five minutes before he comes rushing back covered in filth or paint and another five for him to get washed and changed before they could finally leave for the train station and hopefully buy some last minute tickets for Clifton.
Jason combed his fingers through his beige hair in frustration. He knew his brother never had a sense of time, but even he was aware that this was pretty important; it was the first time in two years that they get to visit their father.
It was a bit of a surprise to both of them when he called them to announce he’s booked them a visit to the company where he works. Ever since mother passed away, he’s buried himself away with his work especially when he got a promotion which involved moving over to the other side of the country and left the two of them with their aunt, so it was rare for him to come out of his working shell for the two of them.
“I’m really sorry about this, sir” Jason sighed leaning over the front door to address the driver “He knew we were going out today, I’m pretty sure I reminded him fifteen times this morning.”
“Don’t worry about it, son. It’s natural for boys his age” the driver assured him “I’m sure you weren’t that far off when you were his age”
His hazel eyes shifted away awkwardly feeling quite disturbed by the question but returned with a short embarrassed yet agreeable smile on his face.
“Jason!” Exactly as predicted his younger brother, Casey, was rushing down the street almost out of breath with his school bag in one arm and his skateboard under the other, only today it looked like he skated into a swimming pool than a mud patch as his school clothes were completely drenched which made Jason wonder as the canal nor the swimming baths is nowhere near where he and his friends tend practice their skating stunts. “I’m here…I’m back…”
Jason’s brows furrowed as his eyes stared onto his little brother “Why are you soaking wet?”
“Oh…canal…tried to take a short-cut…missed a turning…” Casey managed to say through his panting as he squeezed the water out of his school tie “But…I’m alright…don’t worry about it…”
“Ah-ha?” Jason’s brow arched upwards “Well, unfortunately you haven’t broken your record. Now hurry up and get dry and into some new clothes.”
“Alright, I’m going” Casey almost immediately took off to the house, effortlessly leaping over the garden wall before running at full speed to the front door.
Just as Jason expected again, Casey was running out of the house five minutes after he went running in placing that old brown rucksack he normally takes with him on most of their outings over his shoulders. Wearing denim shorts, with a white, yellow collared shirt, over that a The Blaze hoodie nearly matching his Nike sneakers and a dark grey bean hat hiding most of his mildly damp black hair.
“Hey, what are you standing about for?” he called leaping over the wall and rushing past Jason into the taxi “We’re going to be late!”
Jason rolled his eyes letting out an amused snort through his nose as he followed his little brother into the taxi who had already opened his rucksack and brought out his I-pad. “Train station, please?”
Just as anticipated once again the two managed to get on the train to Clifton at the last minute. Just before the train the two were running for the train and managed to get on before the doors closed.
Hours passed as the train travelled to its destination, so the boys took the liberty to entertain themselves. Casey was continuously switching between his electronical devices he had buried in his rucksack, while Jason was either taking in most of the scenery that the train passed by or reading through his favourite author’s latest novel.
But something in the back of Jason’s mind was distracting him from his entertainment. His eyes moved up from the pages his book and turned to his brother with concern. “Casey?” He slowly closed his book folding the corner of his page as he addressed his brother.
“Yeah? What’s up?” Casey almost immediately drew his attention away from his 3DS and onto his elder brother.
Jason leaned back into his seat chewing on his lower lip trying think about how ask his question “Why did you really come home wet today?”
Just as Jason feared, Casey turned away from him with a little scowl on his face. “I already told you, I was trying to take a short-cut for home by the canal but then my skateboard missed a turning which caused me to fall into the canal. But as you can see I’m perfectly fine”
Jason arched his eyebrow at Casey’s explanation “Right. And I suppose it was the impact of the water that got you that plaster?”
Casey responded by quickly shifting his hands over the large plaster on his knee. “That…was from last week. Remember, where I slipped and landed on the pavement?”
“I remember that you were using a much smaller plaster for that graze and that you decided to remove it permanently only yesterday” Jason replied
“It’s not that bad, it was the only plaster they had” Casey bit his tongue realising what he just said. His eyes shifted to his brother who was still giving him his infamous interrogation stare. Knowing how much his elder brother refuses to give in, he let out a defeated sigh “It was just a little trick Cam came up with the other day. You know when you see those bikers flying over monster trucks? Well, we were trying that only we were using buckets of water, for some reason.”
“And you didn’t just say that earlier because…?” Jason wondered
“Well for starters, the truth would insert your infamous big brother speech: You shouldn’t take such dangerous risks like that. Who knows what would have happened to you out there, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, you should be extra careful.” Casey replied with a huge grin on his face “Right?”
The serious tone on Jason’s face turned to an amused expression “You’ve been waiting to use that, haven’t you?” Casey responded with half a shrug before the pair shared a light chuckle and Jason let out a little sigh as he reached out and ruffled his little brother hair “But you’re right, you should be careful when it comes to those stunts”
“And that’s another thing” Casey shoved his brother’s arm away from with one arm brushed his hair back to its original position with the other “You know how much I hate it when you touch my hair like that. Seriously I’m not eight years old anymore”
“You need to be reminded to be careful like when you were eight years old” Jason replied staring into the new born twilight. He quickly turned back with a furrowed brow and a teasing smile “And don’t you still collect those Loopy Toon comics…”
“That doesn’t prove anything!” Casey quickly interrupted turning away from his brother trying to hide his red face he could feel rapidly swelling up in his cheeks.
Moments later an attractive woman dressed in the train’s black and green uniform with wavy russet brown hair and golden eyes approached them with a ticket puncher in her left hand “Tickets please?”
Jason dug his and Casey’s tickets from his satchel and presented them to the lady. As she punched holes into their tickets, he couldn’t help but turn to Casey to find him staring dreamingly at the woman as she passed the tickets back to Jason. As soon as the lady had her back to them Jason quickly grabbed his little brother’s hood preventing him from following her “And that’s another thing”
“What? I just wanted to say hi” Casey moaned as he returned to his seat.
“Right, with a bit flirting on the side” Jason questioned arching his brow again
Casey replied with gingerly grin “Well…you have to admit she did look cute”
“Yeah, I don’t think you’re her type” Jason told him turning his head to the scenery outside
“You always say that” Casey argued tightly folding his arms
“Yeah, and for good reason” Jason replied shifting his eyes on his but refused to remove the position of his head “You’re only thirteen years old”
“Thirteen and three quarters” Casey corrected
“And she was like in her late twenties or something” Jason continued shifting his eyes back to the scenery
“Well, it didn’t do Damian Talent and Jenny Malphas any harm” Casey responded with dramatic shrug.
“And I suppose you didn’t spot the engagement ring on her finger?” Jason added as his eyes returned to his brother
Casey eye brows furrowed at his brother’s comment and leaned out to check on the lady who was on the next row getting tickets. Moments later he returned his normal position with a sulky disappointed expression. “I hate it when bring out good points like that”
Jason responded by simply turning back to the window with a giant amused grin on his face and a humoured snort through his nose.
---------------------
Mapachmon rushed through the woods barely avoiding the electronic darts shot at him. He quickly climbed into the trees and hid himself within the thick of the leaves.
He sat there on his branch watching the group of humans that have been chasing him, wondering around the woods carefully eyeing their surroundings.
These humans were quite persistent. That Mapachmon had to hand to them. Since the sun was at the highest peak they have been attempting to hunt him down with little rest for any of them. But they didn’t seem to be tired compared to him. He was completely exhausted now, and with this wound he developed during this chase he has had to push himself through to escape these humans.
He never expected to have a day like this. He discovered a strange light while he was on his regular lookout duties and ended up in the middle of a copse surrounded by trees, with leaves of different shades of red and yellow. Everything seemed so beautiful, not that far off the meadows at the temple of Ceresmon.
But then out of nowhere a group of humans came wondering around dressed in unusual black armour. They were quite fascinating at first, humans are only meant to be nothing but myths, and yet there they were roaming these woods, until they spotted him and started shooting at him.
“Sargent, progress report” Mapachmon’s ears picked up a voice coming from one of his pursuers
One of them responded by raising their hand and placing his hand on his ear “We lost it”
“Justification?”
“It’s quite a speedy little creature. Plus it seems to have some electric qualities so it’s mostly immune to the stun darts.” The human reported still scanning the area for Mapachmon
“Mostly?”
“We managed to wound it.” He explained “But it was able to keep its pace”
“What’s its profile?”
“Um, it looked like a purple raccoon wearing some kind of Aztec mask” the human replied
“Actually, sir, it looked more like one of those Native American masks” another human interrupted who was dismayed by the first human raising his hand in hush
“Alright, tell your men to pull back”
“Um, why is that sir?” Mapachmon heard the human question his other voice
“The scientists have finally managed to have some success in our project; they’re going through some tests as we speak and if successful we can use this fault as a test drive”
“Understood, sir” The human finished his conversation with the voice removing his hand from his ear and turned to the others waving his arm around to get their attention. “Troops pull back!”
Mapachmon watched from his crispy reddish brown bush of leaves as the humans marched away. Who was that the human was talking to? Where was he talking from? What was this project that man was talking about? What did he mean by fault? So many questions ran through his head from that conversation.
His curiosity eventually got the better of him and he silently followed the humans from the trees. They led to an unusual black carriage that managed to fit the entire squad in the back. As soon as the last human closed the door behind him, Mapachmon swiftly and silently climbed on top of the humans’ roof just as it started to move through a loud unhealthy roar from the locomotive like creature pulling the carriage.
Lying on the metal of this carriage was very uncomfortable. It was really cold and lying flat outwards allowed him to feel rib cage upon the surface that lead him having a bit of an upset stomach as the journey went especially with the occasional road bumps.
Eventually the carriage drove over the hill’s peak leading to a vast field of soil and dust surrounded by walls of thin plastic and poles of metal with three giant pillars standing in the middle of the field made of different types of material, the smallest and the widest was completely made of stone, the tallest was a pillar of glass and metal, while the pillar in between the other two was a mix of the other pillars of stone and glass.
----------------------
The facility their dad was working at was much bigger than Jason anticipated. The building was towering over the entire woods and the labs were apparently spread to the second building that was sitting between the first building and the parking lot.
Jason and Casey stood by watching several more buses had entered the parking for the rare tour of the headquarters of Gaia Corporation, the recently successful science and Technology Company that had developed the first steps towards curing cancer as well as the company behind the medical supplies and technology in aid of the war fares in multiple countries. Although rumour said that they hold a bit of an iron fist for the work placed in the company, it made Jason wonder a bit why they decide to open up the doors to the world now.
“Where do you think we’ll meet dad?” Casey wondered as they travelled to the entrance with the other tourists now dressed in taupe jeans and boots and a dark blue hooded jacket over a black t-shirt with a grey outline of a roaring panther, with the same bean hat over his head.
“Not sure, if I’m honest” Jason replied as he searched his satchel for the VIP passes their dad mailed them on Saturday “We’ll try at the entrance first and then if he doesn’t show we’ll go inside and wait for him there”
“Sounds like a plan” Casey agreed
The entrance to the headquarters was already packed with tourists, several people pushing and squeezing through the doors passing on their tickets and passes to security for the tour.
Jason and Casey stood to the side for a while waiting for their father to push his way out of the crowd to greet them. But as the crowds slowly started to shrink, Jason began to fear if he had forgotten their visit and was now in the middle of something apparently important for the company.
“There you are!” A female teenage voice was heard somewhere within the chattering crowds. Jason didn’t pay much attention to it until a pair of arms wrapped themselves around his neck followed by a pair of lips pecking him on the cheek. He turned to the source to find a teenage girl around his age he guessed, with shoulder length blond hair tied back in a little bun “My gosh, it’s been a long time, hasn’t it? I almost didn’t make it!”
Jason was completely dumbstruck on what was happening before him right now. He confused eyes shifted towards his younger brother for help who looked just as confused as he was but saw his older brother’s expression saying “What the hecks’ going on!?” and replied with a shrug
“Um…” Jason’s muddled eyes returned to the face of the female stranger whose arms were still embracing his neck “Do we know you, Miss?”
The girl simply stood away them with her arms still clinging onto Jason’s with a cute little quiet laughter showing off her striped pale-and-darker turquoise dress like hoodie over a pair of cobalt grey tights with a black converse sitting on her feet.
“Oh, still the jokester I see, my love” she chuckled. “Ah, good one”
“Wait, what did you…?” Before Jason said anything else, the stranger’s hand moved up to the back of his head shoving it towards her face until their faces were inches away and their lips met. Jason’s eyes widened in shock and panic trying to pull himself away from this unexpected kiss but the teenager was holding on too tight for him to escape.
The girl finally released him from their kiss and looked up at him with her hazel eyes and a long grin on her face “Now come on, we don’t want to miss the tour!”
“Hey, just wait a second…!” Jason tried to talk himself out of the situation but the girl had grabbed him by the wrist and dragged him into the swarming crowd leaving Casey standing there completely confused and gob smacked over what just happened before him.
“Miss, slow down a second! I think you’ve got the wrong person because I’ve never met you before” Jason tried to explain himself to her but the girl just pushed their way to the front completely ignoring everything he had to say.
At the doors the girl finally turned back to her only with her joyful, naïve expression changed to a more serious expression “Please, tell me you got some tickets on you?”
“Um…well I…” Jason wasn’t sure if wanted to answer that question instinctively looking down at the passes he was holding onto while they were waiting for their father.
Unfortunately the girl already saw the passes hiding in his palms and immediately snatched them from him “Awesome, this is even better!” Once the passes were placed round their necks the girl entangled her arm with his own leaning in closer to him, which made both Jason’s stomach and heart go off a bit “Now play along and pretend that I’m your date and I promise I’ll give back your pass for that boy back there. Deal?”
“I…” But once again the girl dragged him off to the entrance before he was able to respond.
“May I have your tickets, you two?” A male security guard asked as they passed
“Oh, no need for those, sir, we managed to get our passes” The girl replied holding Casey’s pass to him
“Very, well.” The guard said after checking the pass “Enjoy your time at Gaia Corps.”
“Will do” the girl replied with an innocent smile and dragged Jason into the building.
Once inside the girl dragged Jason to a private space in the reception and removed Casey’s pass from her neck and passed it back to Jason “There, as promised, you can now go and give it to that kid outside”
“Wha- Hold on a second!” Just as the girl turned away Jason finally found himself grabbing her at the arm “Did you just use me to gatecrash!?”
The girl replied with a guilty, apologetic smile “Sorry, but I really had to get in and I’m broke enough as it is”
Jason glared at the stranger in disgust “You do realize, now you’re not using me, I can report you to security?”
“Yeah, but you might not” the girl answered
Jason’s frustration slightly faded away “What makes you say that?”
The girl simply placed her hand on the hand Jason had gripping her opposite and gently removed it from her arm “Let’s just say, I’m a good judge of character” With that she turned back and ran off disappearing into the crowd leaving Jason standing there slightly confused.
“So, you managed to buy yourself some passes. That’s mighty impressive” Another female teen’s voice in a strong New York accent snapped Jason out of his minor daze. He turned back to find a girl slightly shorter and younger than him fiddling with a lock of her wavy medium length French pink hair, staring up at him with her cocky aqua blue eyes.
“Um, what made you think I bought this?” Jason wondered
“I wasn’t that far behind you and your girlfriend” the girl explained
“What!? No…she wasn’t…” Jason could feel himself going red trying to explain the situation
“Although you and your girl don’t look much like rich people let alone science geeks” she continued giving him that arrogant look like she knows everything
Jason snapped out of his embarrassment and took a second look at the teen “Um…you can talk” he responded eyeing her clothing that looked like it was for an older age. A pair of electric pink shorts that exposed most of her black tights with red braces dangling its hemline that matched her boots and a jade green cardigan over a violet singlet shirt.
“One of your folks work here, don’t they?” the girl asked ignoring Jason’s comment
The back of his mind wondered how she figured that out “Um…my father…yes”
“Ah, so that means it was your dad that got you those passes” she figured looking down at her pass dangling from her neck “Talk about lucky, I had pay two grand or something for this pass. It left my left folks nearly broke.”
“For just two grand?” Jason exclaimed under his breath
Behind him a woman in her fifties with close cropped platinum blond with a streak of silver grey on the sides of her head walked by. She raised her glasses higher up her nose as her green eyes scanned a photograph of Jason and Kevin in her mobile. With her theory confirmed she slipped the mobile back into her lab coat pocket and approached him “Jason Catrambone?”
Jason turned to her in response “Yes?”
“I’m Lauren Cash, I’m a colleague of your father’s” she introduced shaking his hand in warm welcome “I was asked to pick you up here in the reception” she slowly scanned the reception “Although I was told you had a brother named Kevin with you?”
“Oh, Casey!” Jason suddenly remembered his brother instinctively looking down at the pass he was holding for him “I’m sorry, I’ll be right back”
He quickly rushed back to the entrance for Casey accidentally bumping into an auburn hair coloured teen hiding himself with a crimson hood along the way but kept moving through the crowds to find his brother.
He found him outside reception standing with a little group that looked a bit like a family holding only two adults with three or four eight to fifteen year olds. Next to him was a little boy younger than even Casey was slightly hiding behind, staring up at the adults, Casey was addressing with intimidated green eyes, but mildly reassured by Casey as he stroked the back of his strawberry blond hair.
“Thank you, for finding my son, my dear” Jason heard the woman say as he approached the group watching Casey hand over the child.
“Happy to help” Casey replied with a little wave to the child “See you around, Chris”
Jason watched the boy raise his hand in response before being dragged away to the entrance “Christopher, honestly, why do you have cause trouble for us and everyone else every time we’re out?” the woman scolded the child as they passed Jason and disappeared into the crowd while he made his way to Casey.
“What was that all about?” He asked
“Oh, just a kid getting separated from his parents, nothing serious” Casey explained “Found him not long after that girl who mistook for her girlfriend dragged you away”
“Yeah, sorry about that” Jason said quickly handing the pass over to Casey before turning back to the entrance
“So…did she kiss you again?” Casey wondered as pulled the pass over his head
“Well, no. She just…walked off” For some strange reason Jason couldn’t bring himself to tell his brother what really happened. Was it because of embarrassment, or did that girl really see something in him that she used for her will?
“Ouch. First kiss and it turned out to be from a stranger looking for her boyfriend” Casey taunted
Yeah, definitely because of embarrassment. “How about we agree that we never speak of it again”
----------------------
The halls of the building seemed to be spookily empty as they walked down their father’s office. Very few people passed them by and there was hardly anyone on one of those tannoys that would announce something important and something about the metal cobalt black walls gave Casey a chill up his spine.
“So… intense work or something” he gulped
“Something like that” the woman Jason introduced earlier to be Dr Cash replied “Especially for the last two years. The higher recommended scientists have been working on this project that apparently is going to change everything around here. I was told by your father they went through a bit of a breakthrough yesterday”
“Sounds like you’re not a part of this project” Jason figured
“Well, not exactly, no.” Cash admitted “I only help out your father whenever he brings his work down to his office”
“You know what’s ironic” Casey thought aloud “It was two years ago when dad got a promotion”
“To be honest, many scientists were promoted to work here at Gaia corps at that time” Cash admitted
“Why’s that?” Jason wondered
“Not sure” she replied “I only have a level three clearance pass. Only the members of the Gaia Corps with a level four clearance and above gets the most detail of what goes on around here”
“What’s our dad’s clearance?”
“Level five”
“Fair enough”
Two corners later the trio came across what seemed to be the creepiest thing out of this entire place. A tall slender teen all dressed in black from her leather studded jacket to her high heeled combat boots made a bee line for them. She stopped in front of them giving Jason and Casey and impassive cold stare with her sinister green-hazel eyes.
“What are these scums doing here? They’re supposed to be with the rest of the impurities downstairs”
Scums!? Impurities!? Who the hell did this think she was, the queen of the mountain!? Jason obviously sensed Casey being offended by that remark because he had managed to place his hand on his shoulder and pull him back before Casey was able to rise to it.
“Zoe, these are Dr Catrambone’s sons, Jason and Kevin.” Dr Cash explained in a calm voice but Casey spotted a hint of annoyance and disgust in her eyes “They came to visit their father”
The girl, Zoe, turned her high and mighty look in between Jason and Casey for a moment until she spoke again “Well your timing for a visit is quite poor”
“What do you mean?” Jason wondered
The question immediately gave her superior stare an element of humour “Oh, Dr Cash hasn’t told you yet? Your father was assigned to do a little errand today so he won’t be here until this evening.”
The announcement sank Casey’s heart, but Zoe’s mockery made his frustration surface “He wouldn’t that. He was the one who invited us here in the first place”
“What a shame, he must’ve known about it only I was told that he willingly accepted to go on the errand.” she scorned tossing one of her dark brown French braids over her shoulder with an evil grin across her face “Must be awful mustn’t it? To have a father constantly breaking his promises to you, to never have a chance to see him or have any son and daddy time with him, to have his precious work far more important than the love of his own beloved children”
The more she spoke the more Casey wanted to just punch that smirk clean off that ice princess’s face. His continuous sinking heart may have been agreeing with her but meanwhile his mind was boiling up with rage and frustration disagreeing with her.
Jason remained holding his brother back from attacking her, but Casey could feel his hand tense up on his shoulder as she spoke on.
“Zoe!” The firm voice of Dr Cash suddenly cut into Zoe’s speech automatically turning heads to her “Yes, I was there when your father came and asked for the errand, quite coincidently not long after he found out that Dr Catrambone was having visitors this weekend might I add. So I heard him say that his errand won’t take so long and he will be able to see his sons on time. It was even Dr Catrombone himself who asked me to pick his sons up if he was running late”
The broken emotions Casey was feeling only moments ago faded away from Dr Cash’s explanation. Once her eyes shifted to him and his elder brother he gave her a small yet grateful smile who immediately smiled back.
“Very well, Dr Cash. With permission from a scientist with a level five clearance, you may escort these two young men to Dr Catrambone to his office” Zoe eventually replied in a mockery professional voice as she continued on her way but not before turning back to the two with a cold stare and her normal dark sinister tone “But don’t say I didn’t warn you. People like your father are never to be trusted”
Saying so she reached out pulled on Casey’s cheek like his Nana would do when she shows affection only Zoe’s was a lot harder and tighter.
“Hey, get off of him!” This was one of those rare moments where Casey was grateful to have an overprotective brother as he saw Jason’s hand come out from behind and slapping Zoe’s hand off his face.
“Oh, have a bit of fire in you, don’t you” Zoe remarked eyeing Jason with a flirtatious grin growing on her face “One rare feature I like in a guy” With a flirtatious stare aimed at Jason she finally continued her way down the corridor.
“Who the hell was that?” Jason asked releasing Casey’s shoulder once they were at a safe difference.
“Zoe Stone, daughter of Derik Stone, the co-chairman of Gaia Corps” Dr Cash answered “Charming young lady”
“Especially for a chick with strong hands” Casey agreed rubbing the cheek Zoe pulled at.
“You alright?” Jason leaned in a bit checking on his younger brother
“I’m fine, I’ve suffered from a lot worse than a tug on the cheek” he assured him
“True” Jason shrugged with half a smile
“I’m sorry about that you two” Dr Cash sighed as they continued on to their father’s office “I was meaning to tell you that your father was on an errand when we got to his office, but…”
“It’s fine miss Cash” Casey suddenly interrupted “Not really surprising to be honest”
“Casey” Jason hissed at his younger nudging him with his elbow.
“What? You know it’s pretty much true Jason!” Casey argued rubbing his arm “Ever since mum passed away, he’s always…”
“Wait, what did you just say?” Dr Cash suddenly cut in
“Our… our mother had an accident three years. And…well, let’s just say dad hasn’t been the same as he was since then.” Jason reluctantly explained “Dad never told you?
“Afraid not” Dr Cash replied “Truth is, he’s always keeping to himself, hardly talking to anyone, completely focused on his work”
“Sounds familiar” Casey sighed
“Though if you ask me, his behaviour is quite natural” Cash continued “An event such your mother’s accident can affect people, it can even change them into a completely different person. You might not see yet but that event will have probably affected you two in some way as well.”
Casey instinctively looked up at his elder brother on that explanation wondering. Casey wasn’t exactly with his family when his mom had the accident but Jason and their father were. So if this was how his father was affected how did it affect his brother?
Suddenly the lights above went haywire continuously flickering between light and dark until they three were left standing in in a dark corridor
“Forgot to pay your energy bill?” Casey gulped
“Should of done that only yesterday” Dr Cash replied who was staring at the lights with concern “And there normally a daily power check-up for the institute”
“This is obviously a bad sign” Jason assumed
“It is” Dr Cash agreed “We better get to your father’s office as soon as we can. Move”
They immediately go into a run through the building for their father’s office
As they rushed in the corner of his eye, Casey thought he saw what looked like a purple raccoon running in the opposite direction “Wait, what was that?”
“What was what?” Jason asked halting for his brother’s question
“I don’t know I thought I saw some kinda raccoon” Casey explained pointing in the direction he spotted it
“It must’ve gotten through when the security system shut down” Dr Cash suggested
“But, what if it was the raccoon that shut down the system in the first place?” Jason wondered
“It’s possible, but here at Gaia Corps, we don’t take any chances” Dr Cash answered
Moments later the trio were hit by an unusual tremor chorused with a loud sound of an explosion throughout the entire building.
“What the heck was that!?” Casey exclaimed
“Not sure” Dr Cash answered “Felt like it came from down below!”
“OK, we should definitely get dad’s office now” Jason decided
“Agreed” Cash said “Your father’s office should have a…”
Another explosion cut Cash’s sentence only this time sending pillars of fire from the floors flying the trio away from eachother
“Kevin!” Jason gasped quickly getting up on his knees crawling under the smoke to find his brother
Casey pulled himself back up wincing at his pain of his ankle had induced. “Kevin!” he looked up to find his brother on all fours just ahead with a wide hole in between them “Are you alright!?”
“No!” Casey replied rubbing his ankle “I think my ankle’s been sprained”
“Just sit tight, I’ll be over…” Another pillar shot up from the hole between Casey and Jason.
Casey instinctively raised his warm from the protection of the burning warm light. The sound of roaring fire died away but the warm light had only grown dim. He lowered his arm to check if he was on fire only to find a giant man completely made out of fire standing before him.
As he stared up at the man in both shock and fear completely confused over what the heck was standing before him, an evil grin had grown on it’s sown mouth
“And now for a bit of revenge to go with my escape!” the fiery man sniggered raising his arm and tossing a ball of fire straight at Casey “FIREBALL!”
