Description Me and Pistol at the horse show. he was amazing for his first time, was so soft in the hunters and cleared everything exceptionally well. Was a little vocal at times but great behavior for a stud. please don't comment on my form or the fact my leg is on his flank and the fact im laying on him. its hard to adjust to the jumping style of this little paint when im used to my big flat draft mare ^^

Edit: hehe played with the colors and edited out my leg xD

awesome pic. you've got a beautiful horse there! i usually don't care for paints but he's gorgeous. i don't know crap about jumping form. the way you're jumping here is pretty much the way i horse race - heels at his flanks and arms reaching toward his head. the more i stretch out the more he stretches out!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

drafterx In reply to alliuscattus [2005-06-13 14:28:51 +0000 UTC]

aww haha thanks! you horse race? no way?! well, your legs are supposed to be next to the girth and you dont want your body on top of the horse, more like hovering over his front end. But he nearly popped me out of my saddle on this one, he looks good so im not complaning

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

alliuscattus In reply to drafterx [2005-06-13 19:44:06 +0000 UTC]

lol. he does look good!

i put an english saddle on my horse one day (never ridden one before!) and rode him around and cleared some jumps - it was pretty cool but i do understand how you have to be careful on your body positioning.

and yeah, horse races. i just enter little quarter mile or half mile "jack-pot" races at the chuckwagon races. they're a lot of fun! at non-sanctioned races (otherwise known as "outlaw races") the horse racing can get pretty rough, as in people trying to unhook your reins or flip your horse. duct tape usually keeps everything safe. and a good arm for punching people. lol.

okay, sorry. didn't mean to ramble.

drafterx In reply to alliuscattus [2005-06-16 01:28:47 +0000 UTC]

yeah, we just have to be careful to stay out of the horses way. jumping ahead, getting left behind, grabbing in the horses mouth with your release all can inhibit the preformance. but aside all that its loads of fun^^

Omg that sounds like so much fun. exhilirating too, we've play raced before but i couldnt imagine something like that...but wow people are really that mean? have yo ever had any instances like that with you?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

alliuscattus In reply to drafterx [2005-06-16 02:10:32 +0000 UTC]

yeah, people can be that mean. and the weird thing is is that after the race they all go back to being buddy-buddy. fortunately I've never had anyone screw with me like that during a race. they're only like that at the outlaw races, where they race about a mile or more and i usually don't put my horse in races that long. but its all fun!

Pistol is a gorgeous stallion, and you're lucky to have such a fine animal. I can't comment on your form over fences. The closest I have ever come to jumping is the one time when the black mare I had years ago was in a spry mood during a trail ride and decided to jump a shallow creek that she usually splashed through. I was not expecting that at all, and nearly came off her back. She was 100% trail horse, and I was conditioning her for endurance when I was forced to sell her. I am not sure I could have jumped her if I wanted to. She was too well trained to carefully step over or go around obstacles on the trail. I let her loose in the arena one day when all of the jumps were set up for the afternoon's lesson. To my great amusement, she loved the idea that there were obstacles all over the place, but rather than jump them, she would perk up her ears, toss her head playfully, lift her feet high, and step over them. She was such a fun horse. I miss her. I have been in the saddle only twice since I sold her five years ago.

No, unfortunately I lost all my photos of Nieve when I moved a few years ago. I had a few in particular that I really wish I still had. She was unflappable, a "bombproof" horse, so she did a couple parades through downtown San Jose, California before a very loud crowd, marching bands, sirens, pinwheels, flags, lots of cars and motorcycles, people throwing candy, and all kinds of scary things that would terrify most other horses, but didn't worry her in the least. She just liked having all the attention. She was decked out to perfection in red, white, and blue for those. Then I had a photo of the results of a lazy afternoon when it was too hot to ride (102 F), so I just stood by her under a tree in the pasture and braided her mane into dozens of long, thin braids with neon colored rubber bands at the ends, and then wove them together into a net so that her neck did not sweat as much under that thick, long mane. Then I had the photo from when I turned her purple. It was the rainiest winter in a long time. She lived out to pasture because she was so friendly and easy to catch and I liked the idea of letting her be a horse with other horses. Unfortunately, it got a little too wet for her that season, and she developed a skin condition that made her hair fall out. So, under the vet's recommendation, I covered her in a topical ointment, and it turned her very purple. I brought her down from the hill, and to her chagrin, made her live in a box stall with a small, covered turnout for the rest of the rainy season, and her hair grew back thick and black as ever, but she was purple for a while. She was a pretty horse, though, solid black, small (14.3 hh), compact and robust, with an overly long mane and tail. She was grade because she was the result of a "pasture accident" between a small, unregistered QH/Paso mare and a "visiting" pony stallion. Ironically, she turned out to be the prettiest, healthiest, and most hardy of all his get. (Note the irony in her name: Nieve is Spanish for Snow.) I might try drawing her from memory sometime when I am a bit more confident in my art skills.

I find it ironic that I had a horse while I was living in a major city, but I have hardly been around them since moving to a ranching area FILLED with stock horses a few years ago. The difference is that there are no riding stables here, as there were in California. Most of the horses here are owned by cowpunchers who are very set in their ways and use their horses for work, not pleasure.

man, she sounds so perfect. I'm sure it was extremely hard for you to see her go. maybe you should go and visit her sometime if you know where she is. Its memories like those that keeps her image alive though. i can just visually imagine her right now. Sounds like she such a sweet mare. I'm glad she touched you like she did because that, you will never forget.

haha, no my name is Tracy Wilson and I am 33 years old xD haha. Well, if you can keep a secret I really showed him in the 2'3 pre-green hunter, but he was over jumping everything, believe it or not the photographer went in and added digitally two top poles to this jump on his computer we didnt win antyhing because there were 30 other ppl in my class on bigger, prettier, more expensive horses but he gave me one hell of a ride and thats all i care about. well, I tried showing my mare. we wont talk about that but sometimes i hate her.

whoa I thought you were a youngin like me! and totally understandable about the mare, everyone has their bads days, I hate my boy somtimes too, he can be such a mule sometimes, other times he acts just like a yearling, but what can you do. and over jumping isn't all that fun... :S
