Description I did this painting today in Photoshop CS4, and it is one of the first completed digital paintings I have ever done (albeit only of a head). I have spent far too much time reading tutorials and articles on how to draw and to paint and not nearly enough time actually doing it, so I figured it was time to jump in and take the plunge. For me, the fear of failure always seems to be my biggest deterrent, but completing even a simple painting like this boosts my morale, and I hope to be doing a lot more drawing and painting in the near future.

One cool technique that I read about online today and which I used while creating this painting is the idea of putting a real piece of paper on top of my Wacom tablet while painting. This didn't seem to affect the sensitivity or connectivity of my stylus at all, and it gave me a more realistic papery feel (which I would feel if I were actually drawing on paper) instead of the slick plastic feel of the bare tablet surface. It seemed to help me a lot while I was drawing and painting, and I would recommend trying it to anyone getting started with a tablet.
