there's two sanses.

the left is underground sans who comes from a timeline parallel to a pacifist one. in his timeline, this sans has experienced many resets of various incomplete runs. like. two years worth of resets. he's gotten so apathetic in his situation that, rather than trying to stop or suede the human, he's just straight up cordial with them, despite resenting the shit out of frisk. the two have a mutual respect or each other. he sympathizes with frisk's motive (that i'm not disclosing), but doesn't agree with how their trying to achieve it. he doesn't bull shit or speak cryptically and has become very straight forward, dropping his usual charade.

sans on the right has only ever experienced a pacifist run; he doesn't even know that frisk can do a complete reset, only that they can load saves/time manipulate. that's not to say he doesn't know about resets, as he's familiar with flowey's reset abilities. pacifist sans (or pacisans as i like to call him) is a soft dood (his jacket hood is even poofier than the other sans). Pacisans has been living on the surface for roughly two years with all his friends and family. he'll drop whatever he's doing for them. Unburdened by countless resets, he's warm, jovial, and really laid back. he's become like family to frisk, hangs out with toriel, and shoot the shit with his best friend grillby. he's still got that depression™, but not to the severity as the other sans.

I won't explain why there's two sanses, but know they don't exist in the same timeline.
