Description “Pokemon can be classified by following criteria: A low reproduction rate (with the offspring being in most cases of its mother’s species), supernatural abilities like extended longevity (in some cases, as seen in the so-called ‘Legendary Pokemon’, it exceeds several thousand years), the ability to control different elements, large-sized bodies, a sudden second and third mutation/maturity stage, some of which are triggered by the radiation of different ores (and a newly-discovered fourth stage, the ‘Mega-Evolution’ which is triggered by ‘Mega Stones’), and near-human/superhuman intellect, even in animals like arthropods. It was generally believed that Pokemon where a whole different act of Creation, or even extraterrestrial life-forms.

In 1850 however, when a female West-Highland Terrier gave birth to a litter of Lillipups, people began to realize that Pokemon did come, in fact, from normal animals. This caused several theories to spring up until in 1976 the young Pokemon Professor Samuel Oak discovered a virus in one of his samples. First, he believed it to be a contamination, but then curiosity got the better of him. He noted a section in the virus’ DNA he found oddly familiar. In a sample of his Charizard’s DNA, he recognized the exact same section of viral DNA. This lead to a breakthrough in Pokemon research, explaining exactly where Pokemon came from: The ‘Pokerus’ Virus affects the reproductive organs, slipping its genetic information into its hosts gametes and changing the offspring to mutate into Pokemon.”

Rodents and Lagomorpha are mammalian Pokémon with the highest reproduction rate compared to other mammalian ones. They also have the fewest teeth, but all of the rodents have typical four incisors changed to chisel-like teeth. Rabbits belong to the Lagomorpha category, which aren't rodents actually. They are closely related though, and that is enough for me to put them together.

EDIT
22.01.2023: Updated the Main File to includethe 9th Generation. Also altered Pikachu, because Mountain Viscacha are a thing.

Tandemaus/Maushold, Rattata, Aloan Rattata, Raticate, Aloan Raticate, Dedenne, Diglett, Aloan Diglett, Dugtrio, Aloan Dugtrio, Sentret, Azurill, Marill, Azumarill, Bidoof, Bibarel, Victini, Emolga, Morpeko, Swirlix, Slurpuff, Pawmi, Pawmo, Pawmot, Patrat, Watchog, Pachirisu, Skwovet, Greedent, Mawile, Mega Mawile, Pichu, Pikachu, Raichu, Aloan Raichu, Cinccino, Minccino, Scream Tail, Plusle, Minun, Whismur, Bunnelby, Diggersby, Igglybuff, Jigglypuff, Wigglytuff, Buneary, Lopunny, Mega Lopunny, Scorbunny, Raboot, Cinderace, Calyrex

Notes:
-Aloan Raticate has cheeck pouches and constantly steals food to store it
-Mawile can be found in Europe, Mega Mawile in America
-Calyrex was a bit of a joke Pokémon. Because the Galarian king was so bad, they put in the hare in his stead, and dressed it up. Figures because a hare can't possibly screw up taxes, everybody won.
-Tandemaus and Maushold are literally the same animals. You'll only get one of them here.
-Scream Tail is a Pika

Enjoy!

I wanted to even before the sixth Gen came out. Then I wanted to do so after it came out. Now I'm waiting for Omega and Alpha

Nice, I would have incorporated a semi-bipedalism (can walk on both all fours and upright)

DragonlordRynn In reply to MrSleepybear [2014-10-25 10:04:46 +0000 UTC]

Well, 'walking' is a bit too much for most of them, but these buggers most certainly are able to stand upright and even hop a few steps on their hindlegs. They just find it more comfortable to walk on all four though

Human Likes mostly are Primates, as will some of the weird ones.

Most of the 'Objects' are going to be Invertebrates.

Wouldn't Cyndaquil be in this category (especially since you didn't include with the bears and weasels)

Cyndaquil is a shrew which is - biologically - not a rodent.

Believe me, I tried making it as a panda, but Spinda's ears are so long.

I made a rabbit from it. A bear-sized rabbit.

Lol. Yeah, I undertand that. Spinda doesn't necessarily look like a Red Panda anyways... .-.

Well, it's a adorbz panda-rabbit xDD

Although I prefer Arvalis's approach to realistic Pokemon (interpreting what animal the given Pokemon would be and mizing and matching different animal parts to fit the design of the original), I can't deny that this (interpreting what animal the given Pokemon would be and sticking with that) is a great way of doing it as well.

I know that, I've read that in some of the descriptions for these. I'm just saying that you two have noticably different approaches with how to make Pokemon look realistic.

KalahariMeerkatfan In reply to ??? [2014-02-06 01:30:29 +0000 UTC]

You know, I wouldn't count Patrat and Watchog as rodents, they just don't seem like it. To me they are like meerkats which are mongoose. Watchhog is especially a likely one because of its pose. It stands on its hind legs, its tail...it just seems more mongoose and more meerkat (I love meerkats and that would be awesome if there were meerkat Pokémon)

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

Devildart In reply to KalahariMeerkatfan [2014-02-22 01:38:04 +0000 UTC]

watchog and patrat are based on groundhogs. which sorta count ...im more confused on why SPINDA is in here its a panda that spins hence the name.

👍: 0 ⏩: 0

DragonlordRynn In reply to KalahariMeerkatfan [2014-02-06 09:09:00 +0000 UTC]

Both of them have Rodent Teeth. Meerkats don't have Rodent Teeth. The only animals that fit this description are Prairie Dogs.

Tahni-Maxwell In reply to ??? [2014-01-05 10:18:38 +0000 UTC]

I think Spinda should've been with the bear pokemon, because, if you look at the name, it's basically a mash-up of spinning and panda.

When my sister drew it as a bear, Spinda looked like a rabbit. So he became a rabbit.

DragonlordRynn In reply to Jackasaurusrex [2014-01-04 17:45:06 +0000 UTC]

Most burrowing animals have only small or no ears at all. I like my idea better, mostly because worms neither have a nose nor eyes
