Description
So a few days ago, I created this little sheet to memorize the designs of steam/diesel robots for my own specific alternate-universe/headcannon of TTTE. I thought this was fun, as long as these characters don't seem too awkward here. Locomotives (primarily steam-engines) tend to remind me of dinosaurs for some reason, hence the spines on their backs, so I then established that into my AU (keep in mind, this is all experimental. You could maybe just call them "Dino-Locos" or something). In general, the animatronics are depicted to be much larger than human-beings, even possessing combat-prowess and feats (because, why not?):
- Their durability is questionable, surviving dangerous things that would normally injure or kill. However, they're not immune to getting at least a few dents or scratches. (Seriously in the TV show, you'll see engines getting into lots of crashes, but they barely get severely-damaged in any way).
- Nearly all of them are given different types of breath-weapons (that's either surprising or unsurprising).
*Steamers are often built in 5 general-styles (but some are rather unique in design):
- Tank Robots are commonly short in stature, but not all of them are this way (take Arthur, for example). Due to their size, They're more likely suited for close-range combat and typically only shoot fire in an orb-like form. These fellows tend to be quite fast, yet they often need greater endurance to keep it up.
(Ex: Thomas, Percy, Duck, Oliver, Bill & Ben, Stanley, etc)
- Mixed-Traffic Robots are built medium-sized and also overall the most versatile animatronics. They're moderately well-skilled at strength, agility and speed (having almost no glaring advantages/weaknesses), so it's pretty much a 50/50 chance of winning a fair physical-fight. They usually possess longer tails for greater-balance, as well as a useful back-up weapon in combat. In addition, these robots typically shoot fairly normal-looking fire in different colors, along with a few other properties here & there.
(Ex: Edward, James, Scottish Twins, Molly, etc)
- Express robots are easily the large powerhouses. They certainly demonstrate brute strength/power, and also excel at speed yet have poor agility. They tend to show big egos, along with several mixed-traffic robots. These bruisers also often possess exaggerated forms of breath-attack; sonic pulses, wave blasts, etc.
(Ex: Henry, Gordon, Murdoch, Flying Scotsman, etc)
- Streamliner Robots (using the A4 "Mallard" basis, for example) are rare, having primary qualities of great speed and endurance. Though, they have their flaws too; Boasting about their speed/strength in major cases, for instance (maybe too prideful). They could also suffer from low agility.
(Ex: Spencer, Mallard)
- Tram Robots are unusually boxy in shape (strange, obviously). Because of this, their movements are often slow & stiff, making them less nimble, compared to other animatronics. On occasion, they can even still prove they're formidable too.
(Ex: Toby, Flora)
*Now for the Diesels. I only put 2 example-types for a general idea:
- Class 08: You probably know the real basis has been responsible for replacing numerous steam-engines out there. "Devious" Diesel is one of them (but he's not gonna replace the Sodor-steamers anytime soon). Like the tram-design, these diesels are mostly odd in shape; rectangular and all. Since I took inspiration on how they operate, common Class 08 diesels have a reputation of using electric/oil-based abilities, often for the mere sake of trickery (not all diesels act this way).
- Clawed Warship: Surprise, surprise, it's Diesel 10's basis! This one was very tricky to pull-off, but I think it worked out well. The claw was intended to be like an extra back-up weapon, hence the reason it's conjoined on the tail. All I'm gonna say here is, it takes a lot of guts to face-off against a Warship diesel armed with a huge claw!
Aw shoot, I forgot whistles/horns/bells! Oh well...
(Maybe I could even give possible signature sounds for each character, like roars and stuff... I guess. Yeah, creativity!)

This is really old (and outdated), but thank you.
