Heyyo, all! Been a bit! Coming back with some new headcanons for Balto, this time focusing on Dusty. Here, a young, skinny little runt of a Kodi is introduced to Dusty, who I've developed as one of the two existing lead dogs for their musher's team; the lead dogs are herself and her brother (again, my headcanon) Kirby, and followed by Ralph and fellow sled dogs. Dusty is a much older female and has no positive interest in the pup, nor in him when he is older. She is partners with Ralph, who I plan to also develop further. Dusty is a stand-offish, solitary character who rarely depends on anyone but herself emotionally, but has a deep and soft connection with Ralph, who serves as her support when needed most. He understands her, and has to be honest with Kodi when he asks, "Is she this grumpy with everyone?"

"Well," says Ralph, "Eh... Yeah? - ah... Well... okay, no. She just doesn't like you..." He tries to be nice but falters to honesty, which definitely doesn't accomplish making Kodi feeling any better; the pup can feel his own self esteem plummeting. Dusty is a blunt and uncaring character but deep down, she is just afraid of being replaced. I'll go through that more later. For now I just wanted to share that I'm taking a different approach with Kodi and Dusty, who have been one of the main fandom couples for this franchise.
