Mythical creatures have taken over the world, humans being unable to use magic... are viewed as less than livestock. When the overtaking occurred all who were not slaughtered were taken. Some were lucky and simply eaten by orcs. But for those sold to the elves had their life force slowly and painfully taken from them to power the elven technology. While those who were sold to dwarves and gnomes were chained by magical cuffs that controlled their body, leaving their mind trapped in a completely unresponsive body. They would work in mines until they were well passed dead, until those corpses rotted away. However, Some humans escaped enslavement or managed to escape after being enslaved or sold off to be eaten. They ran to live in the forests, far far from the mythical beings that now ruled the world. However the magic and technology surrounding them from the now ruling mythical creatures had an unexpected effect on them. Only the humans would gain this effect. They’d be morphed slowly into powerful beasts until they no longer looked human at all, keeping all their memories and nature, but also gaining wisdom, and some kind of better way of thinking than a normal human. The reasons humans enslaved or in captivity didn’t morph and change, simply because within so close to the creatures and in such weakened states. The magic and energy was far far to intense to allow their bodies and DNA to evolve and change. The enegery and magic had to be more laitent an calm, which was achieved deep in the uninhabited forests, along with the humans being healthier from a decent amount of food and shelters allowed them to change.
