Nature/Characteristic: Naughty, Thoroughly Cunning

Personality:

Baron is a self-centered, manipulative piece of garbage. Sure, he had a rather 'proper' upbringing, at least as proper as it could've been given things. But all those teachings about being a good 'mon, to be kind, treats other with respect, etcetera... were thrown out the window when he ran away from home. He stopped believing in those beliefs, realizing he was alone in the world. And that some no-show god wasn't going to be there for him. At least, those are his new beliefs. He won't judge if you think otherwise... though, he'll most likely think less of you. Silently, of course. He certainly couldn't get away with his little facade if he was openly bashing others for their beliefs, now would he? He's fast talking and quite the charmer. He knows how to make people feel safe to be around him. To pull off a convincing 'act', for lack of a better word. He has to be good at this... less he get found out. Being convincing is an important skill he quickly learned, and honestly... you never know if what's coming from his mouth is really the truth or not.

Outside that he's quite tolerant. Having grown up in a society that always told him what to do and how to act... he absolutely refuses to do the same. And as long as you aren't doing that to him he honestly could care less what you do. The Ampharos is not the most social, either. Aside from putting on a show for his career he does not like to get close to others. He may lust after another 'mon but that is the extent of his interest in others. He has no interest in a relationship, or ever having a family of his own. The sheep is far happier living his life alone, and not having anyone to worry about except for himself.

Given all that, deep down there is a little good left in him. Though, he will rarely show it. He has a soft spot for children, surprisingly. He may not wish to have children of his own, he's not against helping a child. He knows how hard it is to be young in the world they live in. He doesn't... want the children of the next generation to end up like him. While it may not be outwardly obvious, he is aware of his misdeeds. There are times where he wishes he could make things right... but often times he just makes things worse. Unable to stop himself. Perhaps Home will be a good stepping stone towards his own redemption.

History:

There was once a small group of Arceist followers who wandered the region. They would go around spreading the good word of Arceus to all that would listen, and relied solely on their faith to pull them through tough times and to protect them from the mutated wilderness they lived in. Everyone had a job in the group, a job that supported each other and made life easier on everyone. Then, one day, the group was blessed with a little miracle. At least that's how they saw him as. A young couple that were member's of the group had given birth to a son. The two were devout Arceus followers, and felt being the group was the safest they would ever be to being able to have a family. Everyone in the group was supportive and was like a family to the young Mareep. He was taught their beliefs and how to help out the group. Naturally he wasn't expected to do anything huge as he was but a child but the occasional little chore here or there was fine, and he was happy to help everyone out.

It wasn't until the young sheep was about 13 that everything seemed to go wrong. Things were fine, until one day his mother wasn't... acting like herself. He insisted that she take some sort of medication or find someone that could help... but the woman was determined that her faith would be enough to heal her. As did the other members of the group, including his father. The group rarely relied on medicines and preferred to heal with prayer. At first, Baron believed that it would work. And for a short while his mother seemed stable... but the longer she was sick... the more it shook the young sheep's faith. "Why isn't she getting better?" he would ask his father, who... didn't have an answer for him. He would simply reply with a sigh, or to tell him to pray more for her health to return. When the group finally called on outside assistance from a traveling physician... it was too late. By the time the 'mon got there... the woman had passed away. It was a sad day in the village, and an even sadder one for the young teenage sheep. He was upset, he was angry, and he was confused. It was like everything he'd ever been taught had been a lie!

It was obvious that this incident had shook his faith... as the teen grew older and got more rebellious against the group's ways. Eventually the group leaders turned to his father, and told him if he did not get his act together they would banish him. They could not allow such behavior here. Baron had managed eavesdropped on this conversation, unintentionally, hearing that they were planning to kick him out. Well, if that was the case then he would just leave! He was sick of their way of thinking and was tired of the people there. The next morning... his father could not find him anywhere.

Years passed, and the now Ampharos learned how to fend for himself. In ways that he was taught were a 'sin'. Stealing, cheating, lying. He would do everything and anything he could do to make a quick buck or to feed himself. It was like his entire childhood hadn't happened and their teachings had not stuck. In fact, he quickly learned that you could manipulate people with religion, as they had done with him. He would claim to be a man of the church, spreading the word of Arceus. This truly did make the folks he met on his travels warm up to him quickly. And just as quickly he founds ways to take advantage of this. They would confess their sins to him, and he would tell them ways he would 'repent' them of said sins. He would ask for money, objects, and sometimes more... physical favors. Of course he could never stay in one place for too long as eventually folks would start to become suspicious of the 'priest'. The least thing he needed was to be figured out.

Eventually his travels led him to a rather large settlement. He was surprised such a place existed. He was always told by his... ex-family that living in one place, or in such a large group was impossible. From time to time a traveler would visit their encampment and say they were on their way to such a place, describing it as a place they could call home. The group of followers mused these travelers but never really believed them. They were so stuck in their ways they thought only they knew the truth. As if to... defy them in one final attempt, he decided to call the place home, too. Granted... he wasn't going to stop his ways anytime soon. He would simply have to be a little more... cautious.

Job: Cleric/Clergyman
Class: Teamless

He claims to be a wandering priest, spreading the good word of Arceus and had decided to stop off in Home to share his teachings. He has enough knowledge from his youth to put on a convincing act to most, he's found. In his experience, if you seem like you know what you're talking about, if you look confident about your beliefs... well, most people will believe you. Since he claims to be a wandering cleric, he does not have a church or anything of the like to call his own. However he will offer his services to anyone that asks, for a fee of course. He claims this all goes back to the group of followers he comes from. A charitable donation of sorts. Not an entire lie, since he did come from a group of traveling followers... but fee will always finds it's way to his own pocket. Of course... no one would ever know that beside himself. He also claims it's a step towards redemption, for those looking to repent their sins. He will listen to whatever the 'customer' has to say, quote them a few verses and give them a suggestion... then send them on their way. Whether they actually 'repent' or not well... the Ampharos truly does not care. Repeat 'customers'... are welcome of course.

Extras/Fun facts:

  • Can see in the dark.
  • Never shares his full name, it's simply Baron now. If that even was his name to begin with.
  • Enjoys writing in his spare time, though they certainly are not any sort of biblical pieces.
  • Tail is prehensile.
  • Found his outfit while on his own. Whether or not it'd been previously owned is the question. He also carries around a rather tatter book he claims to have Arceist verses... though he never let's anyone see. It could easily be empty and he's simply reciting thing from memory.
  • Mainly a vegetarian diet.
