Description
I have no shame with this one, I really think it´s one of the best recent ones as per nowadays and boy howdy is it rich as well, at least when it comes to this particular topic of the (specifically my) past that, just like some other ones, keep influencing and directing my actions today. If not for this as well, I wouldn´t be who I am today.Dark Messiah December.
Ever since I first watched my bro play the game when it was released in 2006 (so long ago! ) before I was banned from seeing it until I´ve legally became an adult (which was after 6 more years!) and could finally watch it without getting myself "traumatized" (which wasn´t as much "traumatizing" as it was more sympathizing with the in-game characters and such, which was purely based of outer look because neither me nor my bro had any idea about this new world that is Ashan 🤭🤭), I was intrigued by it and while at first, it wasn´t much when it comes to lore to me as it was a ground-breaking medieval fighting and kicking simulator , it still pretty much got me glued to the screen as I observed how bro continued to make a mess out of enemies ... at least until this one showed up. The boss of the Temple of the Spider level and good Lord, did he give my brother a good one. I can´t recall how much did he have to restart due to being killed by him, but I presume it was around 6-10 times before he finally got through him ... and after that, things just went harder for him (my bro), which really gave us quite an impression.
However, all the way until the year when I got the copy of the game for myself on Steam (which was in 2016, according to my screenshots), I didn´t think much about all of this ... until I´ve noticed that in my version of the game, its Orcish enemies were really reluctant in doing a special move on me, which was grab and throw (unlike on my bro, which they were doing CONSTANTLY to the point, it was getting both frustrating and funny. I legit thought that in my version, they would do the same to me and well, was also kind of expecting it, to be honest. ) and same applied to this boss. Sure, he still hit like a truck full of elephants and had as much HP as a TOG II (from World of Tanks; check it out! ), but it was unlike anything I had seen with my bro; it prompted me to check more on the lore of Ashan once that DMD was done for the year (in New Year 2017) and all was history, especially when I´ve decided during DMD 2018 to do an experiment I thought at that time to be almost impossible: getting out of his "boss arena" without killing him (as by that time, I knew that he was legit in his words and thus, in my mind, he really didn´t deserve to be killed simply for challenging the player to defeat him with honor (aka obeying the rules of "no magic" and "no possessions"). Yes, Sareth (the character you play as in DM) would kill him due to what was told to him, but not this player, since well, "defeat" isn´t a synonym for "kill" in my book, even if it´s in the game´s. ;D) ...
... which was a real jaw-dropping success (commemorates it in screenshots and all) and everything only escalated from here. Just previous DMD, DMD 2022 (which somehow got the quirk of having glowing white items randomly show up for some reason O_o), I´ve gotten a success in literally sneaking through the entire Orc sections of Temple of the Spider area without killing a single one of them that wasn´t mandatory (which, sadly, there are in at least 2 areas of it) and now, due to this, I can´t play the game normally again, at least when it comes to these enemies. Sure, bro really doesn´t like it when I´m not murdering whole sections with passion, but well, my game, my ways of playing it, when I do play it, that is (as more years pass, more games happen and less time I have due to life itself).
Nonetheless, even today, I´m still amazed that my version´s Orcish enemies don´t wish to treat me like a ragdoll no matter what I do to them (no joke, I had to FORCE the boss to throw me in order to get at least one count in that while in broski´s game version, he´s just a strong-arm O_o) and it´s why, as a recompense, I´m not willy-nilly murdering them on a whim anymore, which I have no doubt would delight the boss nicely (mostly based of what we get from his boss card ) and that doesn´t even include the whole demonic business as well (those world-destroyers better be locked away forever! ) , so ... yeah. This deviation is both a tribute to both my past and present with this particular area of my life as well as an imagining of how would myself, as an actual person instead of Sareth, fare in his eyes as per current time (thus the TF2-style hooded armored Femscout; since discovering that quirk, I always go assassin/warrior combo ).
Femscout (inspired by Scout) -> TF2 -> Valve
(Ghostly) Aratrok the Ashan Orc Chieftain -> Dark Messiah -> Arkane Studios, Ubisoft
GMod -> Facepunch Studios (Garry)
