Description
Some among us have said the Whale Mother has abandoned us. The proof of this falsehood is in the beauty of our very bodies. Trust in the form the Whale Mother shaped.
--Akilu Sea-Slayer
This is the second piece in my series of darfellan portraits. I'm working on porting forward their race from the 3.5e sourcebook Stormwrack into 5e base Dungeons and Dragons.
As you can see, the darfellan resemble orca in many ways. Their peaceful existence came to a sudden, bloody end when the Sea Demons, the sahuagin, descended on their civilization in a genocidal fury that still boils to this day.
The darfellan that are left when the sea washes away the blood swear revenge on the sahuagin and fight to this day with a rage to rival their foul oppressors. Take note of the shark teeth on her adornment. The sahuagin have shark-like teeth and have as strong a link to sharks as the darfellan do to orca. Thus, a darfellan warrior will accumulate many shark teeth in their battles and use them to accent their few possessions. The gift of a mail coat of shark's teeth is considered quite a kingly gift and an excellent reflection of the giver's prowess and dedication in combat.
I thought the best way to introduce the features of the darfellan to my players would be a few pictures. There should be several more after this one.
