Description I felt like coming up with some new jargon to classify and denote different eye colors. I found it interesting that there was vocabulary to denote rare conditions in eyes, like heterochromia, aniridia or ocular albinism, but no terms to directly label specific eye colors. So here is my first draft of eye color terminologies. This is one of two charts, with this chart focusing onΒ eyes found only in fiction while the other chart focuses on real world eye colors.

Atrachromia - The condition of having black eyes. This is not the same as having very, very dark brown eyes or lacking irises. In the real world, it is impossible for humans to develop black irises, but in fiction anything is possible.

Albachromia - The condition of having white eyes.

Porphyrochromia - The condition of having purple or violet eyes.

Rosachromia - The condition of having pink eyes.

Rubichromia - The condition of having red eyes.

Photochromia - The condition of having glowing, luminescent eyes. Not to be confused with the way many animals' eyes can reflect light off of them like a mirror. An example of this from pop culture would be Aang's eyes from the Avatar series, specifically while he's in the avatar state.

Transchromia - The condition of having eyes which can change colors at least once. This change may be a permanent, one-time transition, it may be part of an mutative cycle which has more than two phases or it could cycle back and forth between two or more set colors. So long as an eye undergoes a change of hue whatsoever, it falls under this category. An example of this from pop culture would be Kurapika's scarlet eye ability from Hunter x Hunter.

Iconochromia - The condition of having eyes containing unusual shapes, patterns or symbols (unusual relative to the stand specimen of the subject's species). While this is certainly an uncommon trope in western fantasy, it is much more common in the medium of manga/anime. Some popular examples, just to name a few, include the Sharingan of Naruto, Geass of Code Geass and, one of my personal favorites, (just for the absurdity of the designs its leads to) the eyes of the Twelve Moons from Demon Slayer, in which the strongest demons have their usual pupils replaced with literal kanji to denote their active power rankings and yet still somehow function as working eyes.

Animachromia - This is one last eye type I felt was worth categorizing but couldn't fit on the chart itself. This is the condition of having eyes with an additional animated effect to them beyond the fluctuation patterns of ordinary eyes. An example of this from pop culture would be Kaa's hypnotic gaze from Disney's The Jungle Book.
