Description
This is my half of an art-trade with * liquidxlead .. I hope he likes it! :gulp:This is just a heavily processed pencil-drawing, but I'm realy pleased with the way it came out.. I was just experimenting, trying to imitate liquidxlead's style, believe it or not..
The character is Anko from 'Naruto' I'd neither heard of the character OR the anime, so it was a learning experience..
It sort of looks like something I might have come up with in Fine Arts back in the day..

About time I see one of my favoite kunoichi get some quality fanart love. For someone who'd niether seen nor even heard of the anime, you did a pretty sweet job.

Thanx! Naruto seems very popular, so as soon as I get the chance, I'll be sure to watch it..

Keep an eye out for her in the Chu'nin exam (ep 20-something). Sadly, she never gets a moment in the series as mindblowingly great as her entrance.

At least I've got one good reason to watch the filler now.

I can imagine... she falls out of her top or something, right? I guess that's why she's so popular..

How very cool! A funky style, but I like it.
I really love that you're always experimenting with new techniques and whatnot. You're ever the inspiration.

Thanx Angel!
To tell the truth, I was too lazy to ink and colour this pic, so I just wen't nuts with contrast and layers, ending up with a style that I might have to use again, except on a monster or a vampire or something..

There is a very horrific feeling to it. Something dreadful, not in the way it's drawn just the feel of the image. It's spooky. Love it

THis is really cool. This packs a more dramatic punch to it. It has almost a Silent Hill /NIN/ Joel Peter Witkin feel to it. Bravo

Your detailed pics are always awesome. The grainy textures in this do remind me of Silent Hill though.

This is a really unique and interesting piece. It is a beautiful piece of art with a dark cast to it. Does Photoshop have a Silent Hill filter?

Wow!!! The contrast in this one is out of this world!!
The thing that i like most in this work is the fact that only 2 or 3 colours are present in the piece and even so itΒ΄s lively as hell! As for the pose...what can i say? ...It drips sensuality!

Hey, thanx a lot man!
She's not a colourful character in the anime, (all greys and beiges) so I wasn't that excited about colouring it, but this final version is just all about tone and texture, so I managed to sidestep the issue completely!
Thanx a lot for the fave!

Somebody else asked me the same thing, heres what I said to him:
--
Ok, well its sort of convoluted, but here goes;
I made several duplicate layers of the lineart, and each one I upped the contrast to 100, making it look very grainy..
and starting at the bottom, I turned the brightness down, so that the speckly grit filled almost the whole screen, and on the layers above, I'd set the brightness higher and higher, so thered be less grit the higher you go.
Then I went through and using the Lighten seting on the pencil tool, made the lineart pale yellow at the bottom, darker orange on the layer above, and worked up to the top layer which I made a muddy red colour.
Then I set each layer to multiply, and set the opacity to %50.
finaly, I made a new layer underneath all of that, and filled it in with a grey midtone.. it was on this layer that I shaded in all the highlights with a %25 opacity brush, before flattening the whole thing, and upping the contrast.
Phew! Like I said, it was an experiment, so just random messing around with layers and contrast..
I hope that made some sort of sense to you!
--
That rust-like texture is just the stock of the paper, exaggerated by upping the contrast so much..

Fantastic work. As much as I like your colour, you surprise me with this in it's spare colour. Gives it a real intensity that I can't help but like.
The splash of red across it gives it some energy, even though it's a pretty relaxed pose done in cool greys. The whole thing has the effect of a painting in a samurai movie that's been bathed in someone's arterial spray. Which mighta been what you're going for, maybe.
Excllent work! One of your best, actually!
