Words, a simple, beautiful flow of sounds that conjure images in the mind as effectively as any magician. Words can rend the soul with aching sorrow, or lift the heart into the heavens with a joy that brings light into the darkest of days. The flow can be soft, tender, graceful and soothing; a quiet poem sprung from the lips of a lover. The flow can be harsh, rough, painful and angering; the stinging words flung out of the darkness by two bitter enemies.

Words can be twisted into glimmering webs that ensnare the mind, weaving new thoughts into the tapestry of a person’s heart. Words can act as a weapon; piercing the very soul and causing pain beyond any physical thing. Words can be used to heal; softening the stony hearts scarred by time. Words can be used as a key, unlocking the deepest, most private thought of a poet and pouring them out onto paper in elegant script.

Words shed light into the murky depths of the human mind, and create a way to reach out to others. Without words, the human mind would be like a prisoner kept in a locked, darkened cell, unable to reach out to anyone and forced to remain forever trapped. Words are, quite simply, life.
