“Nevermind” nico folds his arm
Will fakes looking at a nonexistent medical chart
“I think I understand more than you know…”
Nico grimaces
“Diagnosis time: Nico di Angelo, our past few days you have told me a lot about ur travels and hardships, although uve skirted around some details as a doctor I am of logical minds to fill in these blanks”
“Could u add nausea to my symptoms? Thanks” nico snarks
Will gives him a scolding look, nico sticks out his tongue and Will chuckles and rolls his eyes.
“You seem to be suffering from…love sickness” Will says jokingly, even though he is serious
Nico narrows his eyes at will “I’m going into a coma now” he throws himself under the cover

“You were so busy watching percy u were to busy to notice who was watching u” will says
Nico flings off the cover with a spark of rage

Will is a little shocked but he continues
“You kept seeing percy, not being part of his life made u angry with him…it made it painful, what’s more is that u hated those feelings because their not normal…”
Nico gets up and starts to leave, but will follows continuing his speech
“But homosexuality is not a sickness nico but a broken heart is definitely one: it hurts u…it makes u mad…”
“I said shut up will!”
“But it also makes u more wonderful than u ever dare to feel and you want to kno how I kno?” Wills voice is louder and more demanding, he grabs nicos wrist and forces him to turn and face his piercing blue eyes, but nico looks away
“Because it’s how I felt everyday since I saw u break” will says quietly into nicos ear
Nicos heart pounds in his chest, blood beats on his head like a drum, for a moment he does think he’s going to go into a coma
Nico looks up at him
“What?”
“I kno you think ur not that little kid anymore…the one who loved the fact that he got to enter a life of monsters and magic, the ones of heroes who risk everything to save the world but I kno u still are that kid” Will says sternly
Nico looks at him in disbelief
“I know because… u became the same type of hero u so idolized…”
Nicos eyes widen before he turns them away. No ones ever told him he was a hero before…not really…Will forces nicos gaze back to him
“You keep saying Percy Jackson is the strongest demigod uve ever met”
Will says, and the mention of percy makes nico narrow his eyes again
“Well that’s because u can’t meet…Urself”
Nicos chest is pounding…how dare he say these things how dare he make nico feel this way…he didn’t want to like another guy that didn’t-
Nicos thought is cut off by Will’s lips brushing against his cheek
“Homosexuality is not a sickness” he says softly “and heart break?” he smiles down at Nico affectionately. “That has a cure”

CONTEXT:
So here’s the dynamic of their relationship : will makes him kinda remember how he was before he wa claimed and stuff bc he used to hang out with will and the stoll bros and for brief moments he just makes nico feel good, especially with those infuriating healing touches he has.
When will met nico he’d never met a camper who was so happy about being a demigod… Most of them come to camp kinda reluctantly or beaten down but there was nico so happy and upbeat so that’s when he starts liking nico…in a platonic way
But after the battle of the labyrinth
For the brief time he was back at camp Will and the Stoll bros saw how different he was: Will approached him but Nico told him to go away
“Al right I’ll leave….but if u ever want-” will starts
“I said go away!” Nico summons some skeletons on accident and sees the terror in Wills eyes and it hurts him a little bc Will still reminds him of his past and he hates being reminded bc it hurts too much.
Nico glares “go” he says darkly
Will: f-fine…enjoy being lonely! *stomps off*
Nico: I’m counting on it!
And that’s when nico leaves camp
Will leanrs from hearsay all of the things that Nico does and has done and he has nuthin but respect for him during the final battle because let’s face it nico was a bamf there.
Everyone kinda liked nico after the titan war they celebrated him as a hero but nico was still too concerned about bringing bianca back that he left camp a lot to do things Will tried to find him but whenever he did nico was always busy doing something or other phasing in and out of the shadows so Will figured he didn’t want to talk to him, which kinda hurt but Will just moved along. He only ever heard that Nico talked to percy…went to percy…everything….Percy

And then nico finds Hazel and goes to camp Jupiter and Will is concerned Nico died Because he never shows up at chb anymore
But then he hears things about him…tartarus and the final tale from Hedge about nicos shadow traveling the Parthenos back and Will decides he has to go find him, he doesn’t care if nico doesn’t want to see him…wills not going to let him kill himself.
He kinda blames himself for not being more active in nicos life, and he figures that’s why nico had been through so much he’s been alone and miserable so will swallows his pride figuring the only was im gonna get him to stop destroying himself is forcing himself into nicos life because passively caring doesn’t work on the guy
(There is also the added bonus that he needs to get out of the infirmary bc he’s a little shaken up about delivering mellies bb will: *shuddrs* the miracle of life is disgusting I’m gonna go find death now bye)
So then he goes to battle with nico all or the things that happen in boo transpire, when nico let’s octavian kill himself he sees that same terror in wills eyes that he saw before, figures he ruined everything again and hates himself for thinking will is attractive…bc he’s just another percy waiting to happen. But then at the end will demands he take a rest. Nico goes confesses to percy still feeling a bit awkward about it but then he goes back to will and takes his rest…during that time

(exiting canon and entering headcanon) nico is still defensive and he and will engage in a battle of wits in which nico likes to be difficult and will puts up with it. Eventually nico concedes (after a long talk with jason, who will is a bit jealous of) and then he finally tells will he just likes messing with him….[start at the top]
