In the 1760s, my ancestor, one of the early Long Hunters who hailed from Granville Co., NC, married the daughter of a Cherokee chief of the Piedmont region of North Carolina. What her actual name was, I'm not entirely sure, but being inspired by such a beautiful heritage, and having the honor of such heritage, I wanted to capture her beauty in art, so I have decided to dedicate some pieces to the beauty of the Cherokee maiden, or the Cherokee "princess," if you will (not that the daughter of the chief was necessarily a "princess").Anybody else have a paper trail going back to Native American ancestry with a fascinating history? I would love to hear yours, as well.
