As is the case for my own ancestor, here is a bit of info pertaining to the longhunter (or long hunter), with a list of the well-known longhunters among them, such as the great Daniel Boone: Longhunter

In many instances, these longhunters did take wives from among the Cherokee, and it would not have been uncommon for them to have taken a wife from among the daughters of a tribe's chief, so long as, of course, they took very good care of their wives! The daughter of a chief was not a princess in the sense that the Europeans came to consider them when they came to North America (that is, the tribal system didn't work in the way of a monarchy as the Europeans understood it), but it would not be wrong to consider them as a princess in a certain sense, either - it was certainly no small honor to take to wife a chief's daughter.

My own ancestor having wed in the 1760s - the time of the longhunters - by about the time he was 20, possibly younger, the chief's daughter probably would have been in her early to mid teens at the time, as well.

For myself, I can't help but imagine a great deal of romanticism in their story, even if life on the frontier was not an easy one.
