Eh. I got bored. Been working on Flash lessons over the weekend, aside from cleaning and seeing Inkheart. But I noticed there weren't any riding tutorials on DA. Seriously? What's up with that? If someone knows of any, please link me.I make no claims to be an expert, so all of the self-proclaimed riding experts can hold their tongues. I barely know how to ride, and I don't ride regular horses. I ride gaited ones, which require little to no work on the part of the rider. Heck, Peruvian saddles were designed to make you sit way BACK, like a big cushioned car seat. All they lack are cupholders and an air conditioning vent in the pommel. So yes. I don't really ride. I sit and the horse walks in a overtly flashy manner. With my crippled spine, balance alone is an issue for me.
But on the other hand, I do have a bunch of fantasy characters that need to ride various large creatures. (Which was what I was looking for in the first place when I discovered DA's terrible lack thereof.) So I attempted to apply what I know about horseback riding to wolfback and tigerback. The dubious idea that big cats would ever suffer such trappings notwithstanding, I concluded that the power of the shoulders could handle human weight.
Also, the "wrong" drawings are HILARIOUS. I just searched for some drawings on DA and went to town. I mean, drawing horses in the correct positions alone is difficult enough, but to add a rider on top of it ... Yeah. Some people need help. So I drew this. Enjoy!

I think this tutorial was a nice idea, since there are many people in da creating their own fantasycreatures, part of which are sometimes ridden, but theyΒ΄re not really horsey persons so no clue how to put someone sitting on those creatures backs and still make it look natural or just realistic

Aha! I've had this crazy idea of putting foxes on one of the sturdier deer, but have shyed away since I fail at drawing people riding. I think I'll give it a try, trying to keep what's on this in mind.

Hey, when I was little, I drew raptors riding horses. Know what they were called?
Droemar.
So yeah. Pimp out those foxies in spurs and crops!

Do you happen to have any pictures of these crazy sounding raptors in your gallery?
If you don't I hope next time you're very bored you draw one for everyone to see.

Oh, dear God, no. I was like ... twelve when I was drawing them on a regular basis.
Dang it. I might be tempted to return to the idea , tho ...

A) Thank you for making this. Speaking as a horse back rider most people dont get why it bugs off when placement of the rider is.. off
B) I WILL use this. I can draw people riding horses, I know what it looks like well enough; other animals.. not so much.

Thanks for this tutorial, it is so hard to try and draw a person and mount correctly, LOL
