Yes, it was. Sebastian was also featured in some of Wilde's work as well. Due to his history of use by homosexual authors, in addition to the applications his story has to the subject of homosexuality (i.e. outing, impalation, etc.), he is somewhat commonly accepted as the "gay man's saint."
Sorry, but as a big fan of Mishima and Wilde, I felt the need to answer your question een though you've probably already looked up the answer by now. Ah, well.

I have a book called "The Gay and Lesbian Literary Heritage" featuring an article about the use of St. Sebastian in gay literature, so I figured I would take the opportunity to put that knowledge to some good use. It's a great collection. If you can find it, I highly reccomend purchasing it.
