Saw this [link] floating around so I decided to do it. I haven't been doing digital art for very long so I looked though some old sketchbooks until I found something that I used to really like but I knew I could do much better on now. This is what I found.

I didn't even color the original by myself, which shows I have always been lazy about coloring.

The biggest improvement I think is how much more accurately the character's personality comes across in the new one. So it wasn't just my drawing that improved, but my character development and portrayal.

For starters, her naginata. In the original (along with looking stupid) it was supposed to have burn marks on it because it was her sensei's and i had sentimental value. In the new one I decided that sentimental value or not it doesn't make sense for her to use a damaged weapon in combat. She's too professional for that. Secondly, Mida is NOT a girly character, so her holding her weapon so delicately, wearing earrings, and having a stupid girly tattoo had to go... I kept the tattoo with the excuse that it is temporary and Melissa put it on her

The first drawing was done in ballpoint pen and colored pencil. The second drawing was on my tablet using GIMP. I even added some of those fuzzy light thingies that seem to be so popular. Just thought I'd give that a try.
