Description This example is one of Aesop's Fables. The young crab and his mother. The full story and original image are from "Aesop for Children" (1919), a public domain translated version of Aesop's Fables.

The Dscript symbols were designed for space compression. Each word has many possible word forms. I made very little effort to add any logographic elements to the glyphs. The pen was rather thick, it is a brush pen. I like the brush pen because it allows a smother draw and scans in better, but the lines are a little thick.

THE YOUNG CRAB AND HIS MOTHER

"Why in the world do you walk sideways like that?" said a Mother Crab to her son. "You should always walk straight forward with your toes turned out."

"Show me how to walk, mother dear," answered the little Crab obediently, "I want to learn."

So the old Crab tried and tried to walk straight forward. But she could walk sideways only, like her son. And when she wanted to turn her toes out she tripped and fell on her nose.

Dscript, or Dimensional Script, is a 2d writing system. There are several approaches to 2D writing systems, Dscript is al alphabetical 2d writing system.

A 2D alphabetical writing system allows the "strings of letters" to branch, this is achieved by "forking" of the string or by placing letters inside of each others. When a reader approaches a "fork in the road" when reading a 2D script, he much choose a path to read first. Dscript reading rules are flexible, but I normally use top -> bottom, left -> right, Outside -> inside, shortest side chain to longest side chain ( this means when a fork is reached, first the shorter branch is read, then the reader proceeds to continue down the longer ).
