Ravager's Harvest Chapter 33Chapter 33: Prelude to War. The Falchion flew through the upper atmosphere of Lirra, the fires of the planetary bombardment raging behind them. Slowly the planet’s sun was setting on the horizon as the ship raced towards the planet’s night side. Thankfully, Kira’s guess about the Empire’s superstition was spot on. As they reached the dark side of Lirra, they ran into the last of the transport ships flying up towards the heavens. Kira flew them into formation with the starships, providing a token escort before they exited the planet’s orbit. Walking in from the cargo hold, Cal sighed happily. He was safely aboard the ship, his duel was over, and more importantly they were safe. Upon entering the lobby, Kara came running and gave him a friendly hug. “Thanks for the save. Did we rescue the clue?” he asked. Kara looked to the floor. But Jemini answered, “The Imps got it.” Cal sighed, “Well, it’s not a total loss. What about the civilians?” The trio walked into the lounge. Jemini responded, “They got away okay and are safely being evacuated. What’s this about not being a total….?” Cal tapped his temple, “I got half of the clues in my head, the pyramid closed off the rest of the information before I could get all of it. If nothing else, that’s one part of the puzzle they don’t have.” Kira walked in, “Doesn’t mean they won’t crack the rest of the code.” Cal nodded, “Yeah, I know that, but that’ll take time. Time we can use to regroup.” Rusk climbed off the ladder, “I don’t know about you all, but I’m not sure I feel comfortable having a target like that on our back.” “What do you mean?” Kara asked. “Well, think about it,” Rusk responded, “If that Inquisitor survived, I’m sure she knows that Cal knows about half the clue. It stands to reason that they’ll inform the Empire of that, and that paints an even bigger target on our heads.” Jemini, however, smiled, “Yeah, but if they’re chasing us, they’re not going after the Sith Army.” Kira also chimed in, “Plus, the Empire doesn’t appreciate failure. They may kill the Inquisitor.” Cal’s heart dropped, but he knew that there was little he could do. Kira spotted this and put her hand on his shoulder, “Still, you did the right thing by offering to help. They may buy us something.” She then turned to the rest of Bare Squadron, “We may not have stopped Lirra from burning, but we saved its population and more over we’ve given the Rebellion a chance to breathe again. Right now, our job is over. But this war is not. Let’s report back to command and see what job we have next.” “And Nahy?” Cal asked. Kira paused, “We’ll have to see, right now we have to deal with us first.” Nahy walked into her chambers, her lightsaber held in her one good hand. She was in pain, but the bleeding had stopped. Her robes were torn, her second lightsaber destroyed, and her honor along with it. She had lost, lost to a Jedi, lost to a perverted Jedi, and on top of all of that: he had saved her. No one would claim her as their apprentice, if Lord Vader found out she would certainly be dead. Tears ran down her face, this was the lowest she had been since before being rescued from the cruelty of Voss. She didn’t want to hear any reports, she didn’t want to hear any soldiers asking for her, she just wanted to be alone. But then as she neared the center of her chambers, she saw something that nearly lifted her spirits. Sitting on a pillar was the clue they had nearly lost. Nahy ran towards it, not caring about the possibility of opening her wounds. This would be her one redemption! When she reached the pillar in the darkened chambers, she placed both her hands on the pyramid. Reaching out with the Force, she probed the device. At first, she was ready for whatever defenses it had planned. But none came, and then when the clue did come to her light, Nahy gasped in shock. “Only half!?” she said aloud, “There’s only half of it here!? The Jedi….he has the rest!” “Oh, that is a shame,” Petrons voice slithered from the darkness. Nahy gasped as the lights in her chambers came up, revealing a full squad of stormtroopers pointing rifles at her. Panic began to set in as Nahy glanced around the room. Petrons stood in front of his men, fully erect and with a broad grin on his face. “What are you doing?” Nahy hissed. “See I had hoped that we would’ve been able to recover our clue intact, though explaining how we would’ve lost you in the process would’ve been difficult to Lord Vader,” Petrons explained. “But now that what we have recovered is incomplete, that’ll make the proceeding all the easier.” Nahy began to hyperventilate, “You….you traitor! Lord Vader won’t stand for this!” Petrons grinned evilly, “You never respected my command, usurped my authority, and worse, you disobeyed my orders. Now you shall face the justice of the Empire.”Nahy looked among the troopers, “I saved your lives, even when he so callously threw them away!” But the only response she got from them was the sound of blasters relocking. “Good soldiers...” Petrons grinned, “...Follow orders. Neutralize her.” Nahy ignited her lightsaber and tried to swipe away the bolts coming her way. But she was wounded, she was down a blade, and she was tired. The shots got through, and then a stun bolt hit her. The last thing she felt was falling towards the floor, begging for someone to hear her plea. Then a motherly voice floated through her mind. It wasn’t her mistress’s; this was someone softer and distant. “Don’t worry, Nahy,” the voice told her, “Your day will come.” And then everything went black. Petrons walked over to the Inquisitor’s unconscious body. After examining her, he was satisfied that she was indeed stunned. Then he motioned for his troopers. “Take her to one of our escape pods, load her in there. When we’ve exited hyperspace, we’ll eject her into space,” Petrons commanded. The soldiers did so and soon the troublesome Inquisitor was gone. To add to the measure, he had one of the soldiers remove the pyramid for good measure. Just then, a communication signal chirped. “Sir,” Brings’ voice came through, “Lord Vader, as you requested.”Petrons nodded, “Patch him in.” Soon enough Lord Vader’s face appeared on the large screen in the room. Petrons saluted his lord. “I assume this is important, Admiral,” Lord Vader’s cold voice echoed through. “It is, Milord,” Petrons responded, “We have successfully subjugated Lirra and the Teth system.” “I do not care about the whims of Moffs and Governors, Admiral, I assume your other mission was successful as well?” Petrons stiffened and cleared his throat. Now it was time to see how well he had played his hand, “There have been complications, Milord.” Lord Vader didn’t answer, so Petrons explained, “The clue has been recovered, however it has been tampered with. The Rebels arrived on the planet first.” “The Inquisitor….” Lord Vader started. But Petrons cut him off, “Was sloppy. She allowed the Rebels to get to the clue first and tried to access it. Fortunately, she fell in the conflict, a traitor to the Empire. We were able to recover our prize after she was….out of the way. However, we have reason to believe the Rebellion recovered about half of the clue.” Again, Lord Vader was silent. Petrons, not feeling any pressure around his neck, decided it was now to push his advantage. “Milord, this may be an advantageous blessing for us.” “You had best explain immediately, Petrons, for your sake,” Lord Vader ordered. “The failure to protect the clue was the fault of the Inquisitor, and she has fallen for that. However, if the Rebels have the clue, they will attempt to locate the Sith Army themselves. That’ll make them easier to track. If we hang back, allow them to recover the last clue, and then follow them to its end goal, we can crush this Rebel force and revive the Sith Army in one motion.” Petrons informed him, trying his hardest to keep his composure, “And deal a crushing blow to the Rebellion as a whole.” Lord Vader was silent. Petrons nearly started to sweat, wondering if he had been found out. This plan had to work, for his glory, and for the Empire. Then, after what seemed to be a long time, Lord Vader nodded. “Very well, Admiral, you may proceed. Do not fail me,” he ordered. Then the screen went black. Petrons let go of air he wasn’t even aware he was holding. With his new found orders, he beamed and walked towards the bridge. He felt lighter than air as he walked, the elevator ride felt shorter, and when he was on the bridge, he felt as if he was on cloud 9. Brings saluted the fleet admiral, who then briefed him of the new mission. Brings relayed the orders dutifully, but then asked only one question of his Admiral. “Do you think it’s wise to eject the Inquisitor into space, sir? The Rebellion may not find her.” “They’ll find her,” Petrons responded, “We’ll make sure to send her in a path that’ll put her close to Rebel movements. Plus, if there is one thing to know about Sith, they are remarkably resilient.” “Yes, sir,” Brings responded, “And not putting on a tracking beacon?” Petrons turned to him, “Oh, one will be attached, don’t worry, just not onto the pod itself. Needn’t worry, Brings, I have accounted for everything.” Then he smiled, “Tell our ships as we prepare for hyperspace, that the end of the Rebellion is at hand.” And with that, the Ravager and her fleet left Lirra, and departed into hyperspace.Editor's Note:Huh. I almost can't believe I made it to the end. It doesn't feel any different, yet it also does. It's weird. Very weird. Either way, I hope you all enjoyed this chapter. We should be starting with releases for the next book... eventually. I kinda already forgot the schedule for that, but there will be a hiatus... so look forward to that? Er... I'll just move on.In this chapter, we had the main setup for what is bound to happen in the next book; namely, Petrons' betrayal of best girl.I'll see you all in the next start of the next book, I guess. Huh. Happy holidays? I think it's about that time. This has been Desh fumbling, stumbling through. I am off.
