Description

Another oc for the headworld lol

This one I was really excited to design. He's a simple boi, but I liked planning out his personality and his species.

Meet Grozza, who I mentioned in a previous piece . He's one of Irdog's associates, and one of the ten crimelords that have a hold of the seaside city of Navren.

Backstory/lore time~

Ertsre drakes were natives of the Skycradle Mountains, making a home in the spiraling underground city of Tiralf and finding abundant work in the Skycradle Mine. That's how things had been for centuries, tracing back to the Ages before Imperatrix Megara formed the Khineian Empire.

Ertsre were strong drakes despite their shorter statures. They were lower to the ground, and were surprisingly very flexible creatures that could easily traverse smaller cave passages. Their thick but sharp claws and picklike tails were perfect for piercing stone and digging out gemstones and important ore that fetched a pretty price. Many dragons sought out the shiny rocks they unearthed, and this both pleased and irked the Ertsre.

On one claw, the money gained from wealthy creatures seeking gems in order to display their status was wonderful, and used to fund many excavations deeper into the Skycradle Mountains.

On the other claw, however, more creatures wanted to move into Tiralf: wyrms, dragons, wyverns, and other drakes. More creatures that wanted a piece of Tiralf and the Skycradle Mine to take their own share of the spoils without paying the Ertsre for the privilege to enter their ancestral home. More creatures who belittled the Ertsre for being dull, rock-dust covered things that wallowed in pebbles and hoarded their riches from "those who could use it better".

Many Ertsre refuse to leave the mountains. But when Grozza was younger, he wanted to leave as soon as possible.

He didn't like the mentality his species had formed over the years; they were reserved beings, yes, but they buried any and all emotions that they had towards the outsiders. They refused to be open towards anything that showed the smallest inkling of greed towards the jewels or ore the Ertsre dug up. His mother was very good at reading others, and purposefully threw out ridiculous prices that the buyers actually agreed to after a long stint of back and forth bartering. It was a game. A bloody game to these creatures who hardly saw past their own lavishly-painted claws and jangling necklaces and rings.

And yet even when his mother acquired a large stash of money from these wasteful nobles and royals, she hardly kept any of it, instead, she paid all but a little bit to Lord Ziergi, an even greedier being that had been stationed to "rule" Tiralf. The Imperatrix was trusted to appoint loyal rulers to watch over her cities, but this one... he wasn't trustworthy at all. Older Ertsre recall the days when this particular lord was indeed kind and generous, and cared greatly for the well being of the inhabitants of Tiralf. But it is theorized that he changed during some point in his "rule"...

As he grew, Grozza became more and more bitter towards this resident lord, and always begrudgingly handed over money to Ziergi's subordinates whenever they made their routine treks through the city to gather money from Ertsre workers. Grozza despised these dragons that swept up to the stony homes of the mining drakes, extending their flourishing, selfish claws to trap piece after piece of gold or jewels. Yet he was also intrigued with how their mere presence changed any happy atmosphere into something morose or hostile.

He was nearing adulthood when he left Tiralf behind, hitching a ride on a boa-like wyrm's caravan. His farewell to his mother was simple, but surprisingly positive, in Grozza's opinion. She didn't stop him, or berate him for wanting to see the world. Instead, she handed him a bulging pouch of money to use to get him wherever he needed to go.

Grozza was shocked, and worried for what she would do without the money to pay Lord Ziergi. His mother gave him a sly smirk.

"They think we're brainless dust-lickers," she scoffed, referring to the outsiders that lived with the Ertsre. "For every bastard that thinks that, Grozza, prove them wrong. Humble them."

And so he entered the outside world for the very first time.

At some point (which I'll expand on later), he meets Irdog and becomes friends with him. Later, he becomes the head of Lord Tennais's countinghouse, therefore in charge of a lot of the money in Narven. He's one of the ten crimelords alongside Irdog and their other associates, though he doesn't really like the title of  "crimelord" all that much.

I'm putting too much thought into this lmao, but I really like how his design turned out~
