Portraits on Deviant Art fall into a number of sub-categories. Animal, Anime, Fantasy, Stock photo-ish, etc. This is one of the best examples of a straight-ahead portrait I've found on this site. While painted in a seemingly loose, free manner it shows a total understanding of the tonalities produced when real light falls on a subject. It also conveys the sense of a real person with a real personality and doesn't come off weird or amateurish.
