Description Someday, I will paint this (along with two others in need of color 😶).

St. Francis of Assisi was one of the greatest saints of the church. He was the first to bear the stigmata (wounds of Christ), and the founder of the Fransiscan order (which I hope to join in the future). It was said that he was preaching to the crowds, but no one was listening. In frustration he huffed, "I might as well be preaching to the birds!" He then began preaching to the birds. The birds, unlike the people, stopped, flocked around him, and listened to his words. Also, birds would come visit St. Francis while he was near death. Thus the inspiration for the Magpie on his shoulder.

St. Francis lived a life of poverty, chastity, obedience, and helping the poor and sick. Magpies, crows, dawes and other less desirable birds were used as symbols of the common, lower class people. Thus the magpie on his shoulder. He came to help the "undesirables." I only wish I could incorporate his cord somehow. Anywho, St. Francis is a saint we need today with all the insanity of this world.

Pencil and dipping pens.
