My current favorite headcanon for Shadow is that Maria taught him how to play the piano. He now plays certain songs to cope with her death, one of which is The Sound of Silence. I really like how this turned out. I like to imagine Rouge or Sonic finding him like this one night, and instead of asking what he’s doing, they just admire his skills. Also, he sings while playing too.
