Description a third attempt to ink and color something, which i'm truthfully proud of the result. the obvious subject matter is US cavalrymen (10th cavalry regiment) rallying to charge san juan hill during the spanish-american war of 1898.

synopsis: on 1 june 1898 general william shafter, the supreme commander of the expeditionary force in cuba, made plans to attack santiago de cuba. in order to accomplish this shafter needed to take spanish strongholds in el caney and san juan in order to clear the way for an assault on santiago. V corps commanded by major general joseph "fighting joe" wheeler was ordered to assault the stronghold at san juan hill. while colonel theodore roosevelt and his rough riders (1st volunteer cavalry regiment) are acclaimed for their charge on san juan, roosevelt needed to secure the main assault on the hill by capturing a spanish position on an adjacent hill, kettle hill, while the infantry division pressed on to san juan. the rough riders, along with the remainder of the cavalry division (the 9th and 10th cavalry regiments) took kettle and the 9th and 10th assaulted san juan from the right flank, giving much needed support to the infantry regiments that bore the brunt of the spanish artillery. private charles johnson post of the 71st new york regiment, also an artist who made sketches of his experience in cuba, mentioned in his memoirs THE LITTLE WAR OF PRIVATE POST of the importance of the role the buffalo soldiers in the assault on san juan; saying that if not for the 9th and 10th cavalry the infantry would have been obliterated.
