The fae, on those rare occasions in which they ventured out into public company in the human realms, attempted to disguise their ur-natural character by various means. Primarily, they wore loose cloaks to cover their folded wings, and occasionally trousers (of the proper use of which, as shown here in the work of the illustrious period photogrypher, Luxet Tenebrae, they were charmingly unaware--or more likely uninterested). They would also sport various items of technical augment, such as goggles or monoculars in their effort to "blenden in with the humanfolk, so odd in their aparyls." The overall effect was not so much the mimicking of respectable human costume as to suggest individuals suffering from a form of unbalanced mental state, and invariably there were embarrassing encounters with well-meaning psychomedicians and local constabulary, the which rarely resulted in a happy outcome for the humans involved. Still, their approach to costumery appears to have pleased the fae well enough.
