Ya really think that's funny mate?
I AM grown up. And the fact that you seem to think most of us aren't is concerning enough. And you wonder why many youths hate adults. You don't trust us enough. You treat us like the outsiders of society.
So with all due respect, you grow up.

Also, you could choose to ignore me, or you can choose to answer.
No matter what you do, you'll prove how mature you truly are.

Well, I was relaying a fact; when you grow up, at least in age, you will probably be able to handle more adult things. Age limits are a simple premise that don't take a lot of brain power to understand. 5 year-olds should not be allowed to drive a automobile, but a 15 year-old might begin to have enough life experience to deal with some of the complexity and responsibility that go with operating large heavy moving object. Maybe.
You have not been alive long enough to have matured enough to handle a lot of things. Railing against 'society' for treating you like an 'outsider' because all of 'us don't 'trust' you, when in fact you are slowly being integrated into that 'society' (though you seem unaware of it), is proof enough that you have not reach a maturity level to deal with most adult things.
So with all due respect, it is true that even some adults are not mature enough to deal with all of life's complexity, you still have a lot of growing up and learning to do. Not being able to look at nude art is a small thing compared to the rest of what life is going to throw at you ...

To be fair, when thinking in a broad spectrum, and not with the specific person..it is kind of unfair to have a an 18+ block on an artistic nude.
I say this because...well... I'm seventeen, and having to wait 12 months for something that I'm capable of understanding is rather annoying.

One of the basics of being an adult is to understand that life is not fair. I'm sorry you were not taught this fact of life.
One person's 'artistic' nude is another person's porn. So a line had to be draw, no pun intended, somewhere. When trying to please everyone, your going to piss someone off. Guardian-Phoenix is just miffed that he is being lumped in with his peers without consideration of his 'maturity' ...

See, you're being unduly rude...
I was being very polite, and you had to make it seem like I was being ignorant for not understanding that life isn't fair.
Everyone has hardships in life, I understand that, I was simply making a comment on how it's unfair that due to some people's insecurity, or prudish way of thinking, that other's can't enjoy an art piece.

You can twist all you'd like, but I'm not insecure in the least. What reason would I have to be?
Regardless, I feel as if you're underestimating me, and are using generic "Teenager stereotypes" to discern my messages. As such, when I reply, you try to make me feel as if I'm being ignorant..
Also, I hope you can see that while (the majority of) my opinions were written in terms of "I feel" or "it seems", you stated your opinions of me as facts. Which, I am quite sure, you don't know me enough to discern.
I don't want to continue speaking with you for the above reasons, as it's simply not worth my time to discuss a topic such as this with someone seems to have such a problem with people of a certain age.

And you fail to understand CatNipSoup's point. There is a very big difference between PORNOGRAPHIC NUDITY and ARTISTIC NUDITY and the fact this site is filtering the latter is 'unfair'.
With all due respect loose the cocky attitude. Some aspects of life are just downright outrageous. Racism isn't fair. Discrimination isn't fair. How do you think those affected feel?
Finally, use appropriate wording and you may just be accurate. MY maturity PLUS others. So do everyone a favor and;

Personally I beg to differ;
"Well, I was relaying a fact; when you grow up, at least in age, you will probably be able to handle more adult things. Age limits are a simple premise that don't take a lot of brain power to understand."
Who says it's an adult thing? Programming is a complicated brain-enforcing task yet a 16 year old coded a site alone (magistream.com). Limmiting what you can do by age drags you down mentally. You can't do something because some pompous power-crazed person decided so.
"5 year-olds should not be allowed to drive a automobile, but a 15 year-old might begin to have enough life experience to deal with some of the complexity and responsibility that go with operating large heavy moving object. Maybe."
Thats because 1. People don't teach 5 year olds how to drive auto-motives, nor are the auto-motives built to allow a child to drive. Depending on HOW the said child was brought up, you don't need life experience to deal with complexity- You need to learn. Just because adults have had 18+ years of education in English, Maths, Science, Audiology, Scientology, or whatever else does not automatically make them suitable and 'mature'. A 15 year old can be capable of operating something if taught correctly- You just decide that because they're 'too young' they're automatically assumed 'immature' and therefore 'unsuitable' to operate heavy machinery or auto-motives.
"You have not been alive long enough to have matured enough to handle a lot of things. Railing against 'society' for treating you like an 'outsider' because all of 'us don't 'trust' you, when in fact you are slowly being integrated into that 'society' (though you seem unaware of it), is proof enough that you have not reach a maturity level to deal with most adult things."
I've lived long enough to know that the world has had too many recessions, is in global debt, drugs, mobs, racism and a load more others. I'm old enough to make my own choices in life. And so are a lot of other young people in their 13 - 17 years. I consider being deafened by mosquitoes discrimination and exclusion. I dont consider that a warm invitation into a society. But a message saying 'we don't like you, stay away!'. I have enough maturity to deal with most 'adult things' as you so say.
I have a high enough sociological level to communicate with more-or-less every kind of person, and so do others. There are people who look like 21, who are in fact 13 - 17 years old. I was told I looked like a 21 year old by a fair amount of people, and they all seemed to see I was mature enough.
Granted, some people aren't mature enough at this age to manage finacial difficulties, or be social enough to go to an interview without screwing up, but what gives you or anyone else the authority to classify the entire age range due to that group?
"So with all due respect, it is true that even some adults are not mature enough to deal with all of life's complexity, you still have a lot of growing up and learning to do. Not being able to look at nude art is a small thing compared to the rest of what life is going to throw at you ..."
As I said before, depending on how they grow up and are taught is a factor on peoples maturity. Yes, I still have some learning to do, though I only have one more year of High school before College, then University and then finally zoology unless some part of my life changes.
Concluding, nude art is again, art. Not pornography. Pornographic imagery is considered 'adult material' for a reason. Nude art is for artistic views and viewers.
- I'm waiting for life to throw it's worst, I've already almost been torn apart before today emotionally. Some financial discomfort in my life may add stress, but is that really something you would class under 'adult things'?

Probably, I just hate the saying "you should grow up" for obvious reasons. I only think things like hard-core violence, sexual acts and similar should be 18+. A nude pic should just have a nudity warning at most, the body is art and who is someone to say that someone can't view art?
And I'm pretty sure that uploading sexual act-included image goes against the TOS/TOU of DeviantART. So, in my opinion; the filter is a stupid discriminating piece of coding. But heyho.

To Guardian-Phoenix: I'm glad for the filter so that I can come to this website while in public without worrying about naked subjects appearing unexpectedly and causing folks (such as my parents, or house guests, or young children) to raise their brows. I'm an adult and I have no problem with nudity or pornography, but having a SFW filter on the site means I can enjoy it in more locations. Something doesn't have to be outright porn to be unsuitable for a young child to stumble across. Whether you find it objectionable or not isn't up to the artist, who shouldn't be yelled at because they're just complying with the rules of the website, and it isn't the website's fault either because I'm sure this kind of voluntary self-censorship can avoid a potential lawsuit from an angry parent. If the filters weren't present, then either nude photography wouldn't be allowed here at all, or minors wouldn't be allowed to have accounts. Besides, I thought kids always lied about their age when signing up for websites anyway.
To the artist: I regrettably don't have anything to add that everyone else hasn't said a hundred times over. Beautiful, elegant, smooth, crisp, alluring. For having so little on-screen, I could still continue to find details of her skin or the lighting that I had missed on first glance. She almost seems to be lying in her own shadow, blending into the background like a moonlit cloud in the night sky. This would make a wonderful study for a graphite drawing.

Guardian-Phoenix In reply to JoJoBynxFwee [2010-10-14 12:05:22 +0000 UTC]
Well, yeah. The filter has it's good points and bad points.
" I'm glad for the filter so that I can come to this website while in public without worrying about naked subjects appearing unexpectedly and causing folks (such as my parents, or house guests, or young children) to raise their brows."
Other people watching over you have no right to jump to conclusions. Nor should they, and nor should they perceive artwork as concerning. Pornographic artwork (sexual acts) are deemed inappropriate on DA and wont be allowed. The filter is for artists to say "I believe nude artwork should be for adults only" // "I think that the viewers should choose if they want to see" // "everyone has the right to view my work" ///alternate.
"I'm an adult and I have no problem with nudity or pornography, but having a SFW filter on the site means I can enjoy it in more locations. Something doesn't have to be outright porn to be unsuitable for a young child to stumble across."
Discrimination; "means *I* can enjoy it in more locations." did you forget about those that, CANT view it? Who perhaps want some inspiration for their college work? or High school project? Those 'young child'(s) will find their way around all the blocks. Everyone at one point in life looks at pornography. Most at childhood. You may not like what a child does (look at porn, is bi/gay/lesbian, or whatever else) but it's their choice, they chose to do so.
"Something doesn't have to be outright porn to be unsuitable for a young child to stumble across. Whether you find it objectionable or not isn't up to the artist, who shouldn't be yelled at because they're just complying with the rules of the website, and it isn't the website's fault either because I'm sure this kind of voluntary self-censorship can avoid a potential lawsuit from an angry parent."
If you consider a nude model unsuitable then look at the TV once in a while. Where filters don't exist. Then tell me what's more suitable. There are THREE types of warning; Not Mature / Mature Warning / Mature. Meaning that they ARE complying with the rules, but in a different way. Noone says you HAVE to put the filter on nude photography. And I have in fact seen some nude artwork without a filter. The fact the artist makes it MATURE is 'their fault'. The fact that a filter exists, the artist didn't use it, and the parent overlooking and overreacting puts the odds in favor of DA.
"If the filters weren't present, then either nude photography wouldn't be allowed here at all, or minors wouldn't be allowed to have accounts. Besides, I thought kids always lied about their age when signing up for websites anyway."
And what do you class as a minor? who are you to block something from someone?
Also a hint; not everyone lies. Did I lie? No. Other people who lie remain in the dark and don't comment much or at all. They hide their age and never talk about their life much. The fact you seem to think kids are lairs is concerning. Highly concerning. With the point that you seem to think the future generation of the planet is a bunch of lying immature 'kids'.
And before you/anyone else go thinking this is a rant, it's a discussion or neutral argument.
~good day/night.

JoJoBynxFwee In reply to Guardian-Phoenix [2010-10-14 13:03:21 +0000 UTC]
I'm just going by the website's definition of a minor, which is to say someone not a legal adult in the USA, which is to say someone who isn't 18 yet. I thought my raspberry face showed that my comment about kids lying about their age was a jesting one (particularly since it's expressly forbade in most places, and my argument errs on the side of rules-abiding). I know you didn't lie because you stated right in your first post that you're blocked because you're a minor. If you had lied, you wouldn't have said that! And at no point did I say I thought the planet's entire future generation is immature, or lie with any consistency.
We have all been children, and when we are or were, there are certain laws and non-law agreements that adults make to prevent us from seeing objectionable things, by however they define to what degree something objectionable is. It's not as if I am foreign to this concept of being discriminated against for nigh 18 years, I did appear on this planet a fully-fledged adult with no memory of being told "You can't" before. Everyone's been there. But two years ago, I was there; I am not far into legal adulthood yet.
I have no control over how other people react to what I look at on the internet. And if there are young children nearby, I'd rather be able to come to this website at all hours regardless of that. I'm sorry that this benefit to me does not extend to you yet, although someday it will. It's how the site is made. I like it for that reason. You can dislike it for that reason.
Television and other media are regulated by groups such as MPAA/PEGI/FCC/etc. You won't find full frontal nudity on shows intended for a below-18 audience. At least not on the mainstream channels. And shows made for older audiences DO have warning bumpers designating the intended minimum viewing age, even if they can't force anyone not to watch anyway.
Both you and the uploader made an agreement upon registration at this site that nude works are to be censored. If the artist didn't comply, moderators -can- remove the work and suspend the artist, and I don't think anybody wants that!
If any artist has an issue with the agreement to put warnings on their nude works here, there are other websites available. If you have an issue with the agreement to be honest about your age when signing up, and thus, not being allowed to view art that the artist has agreed to censor from those not of adult age, well, there are other websites available!
These small regulations allow both adults and non-adults to be active members of the website. If they were not there, either this photograph wouldn't be here, or you wouldn't be. While it may seem like discrimination not to allow you to see a small percentage of works uploaded here for a few more years, it's actually in your favor, because at least you know that you CAN see it eventually.
However, that's just the way it is, and it's the way the makers of this website have decided to regulate things, and that's what both you and all other members agreed to implicitly when we made our accounts.
And yes, people find ways around censorship. Just as people find their way around any rule. Just because a car is capable of moving at 100mph doesn't mean we need to remove speeding laws.
I don't think the human body is at all inherently sexual even while nude, and often, neither do children; we're born naked, animals are naked, it's natural. Is a modestly bare pair of breasts going to harm anyone's psyche? Probably not. Are openly sexual works permitted on this site? Admittedly not.
But it isn't up to me what other people think, and it isn't up to any regular members what the moderators decide should or shouldn't be put behind a warning or outright block on the website they run. Again, there are other places to find what you want, and if a particular artist chooses not to upload elsewhere, well, you'll just have to wait a few years until that block is lifted. It's just how it is.
So, no, this work is not pornographic in any way. But she is nude, and there is a rule about it here, which is all I'm saying.
If you have doubts about this, please see DeviantArt's nudity policy: [link]
So while perhaps in a roundabout way complimentary to the artist that you're unhappy about not being able to see this picture, unless you level complaints directly at the moderators, nothing can change.

Concluding then, if they're going to block 'minors' from viewing artwork, it shouldn't show up in search results, DD's, or galleries. Because I'm honestly tired of seeing DD's below just to see they're blocked due to nudity. I'm not going to take it out to a moderator because this and every other site decide that once a filter is in place it wont go, and they won't spend the time making mature posts hidden. I'm not the only person who hates the filter, and there is infact a petition going regarding it. Even some 18+ disagree with it. So I personally wont. However the petition will.
So with that said, hope you have a good day / night. =] Unless of course you intent to carry on this discussion..?

I think a while back they didn't show up in searches/galleries; I'm not sure why it changed.
I pretty much said everything I needed to. Though I will agree that the filter can be a pain when I want to show my own mature-labeled artwork to people who aren't actually members. Telling someone to fill out a form to see a picture is meh. If it were just a warning buffer (not a total barrier, and with a disable option), it'd solve the issue of safe browsing in public, but still ultimately leave the decision up to the individual what to look at or not.

Yah, I don't mind the filter for it's reasons of being up, but the fact their is one on an art site just makes me want to explode. The fact something not even sexually related images is deemed so seems inappropriate. I can understand that some people would abuse this and upload violating images, but I really don't see why dA should punish the majority of mature members just to counter the minority with a filter. Personally if it was set so blocked images don't show up then they should change it back to that. Because seeing so many DD's that were given a DD for their uniqueness and not being able to see it myself is rather hurtful, and discriminating.
