Mini story below 👇 for context!
------------------------------------------------------
There were always villagers murmuring amongst themselves, whether it be in the tavern or streets, all of them had something to gossip about..local myths being their favorites apparently; one in particular which caught the attention of newcomers as if it was the most astounding thing they've ever heard, however very few could prove it was true.
The legend went as such..
Once, there were two beings, one of the land and the other of the sea. No one knows how they came to be, but some say that the two were born from the seafoam and earth that they protected, drawn together by their love of the world in which they resided in; working hand in hand to create a new land for their people that sailed the vast oceans in search of home.
They worked in harmony the two, their bond strong and held together with love of the land and ocean. The guardian of Earth creates islands full of flora and fauna while the guardian of the sea guides ships and creates many forms of life in deep waters, all the while sharing their power between them; promising that they would never leave the other's side as long as life still exists, peace within their own world.
However..
All good things never lasted long..
Little did they know that their light would soon be extinguished.
There was another being that existed, one born of rage and harsh winds, thunder crashing with every roar. The Storm. He was jealous of the Guardian's power and love that came from the life they created, growing in fear of his howling winds and destructive flames of lightning that struck the earth; bringing misery in his wake.
He hated them with a burning fury that spread into the fire which almost ended life itself. The Storm became uncontrollable in his rage, destroying everything that both Guardians came to love and cherish in their creations, from typhoons wrecking homes of humans to setting the forests aflame; trapping animals within the fallen branches, death following in its wake.
Both Guardians fought to protect their domain, facing The Storm in an intense battle with passion in their hearts..but even they couldn't tame the harsh winds alone. It was then the Guardian of land made a decision, to use his body as a vessel to trap The Storm in, his companion then needing to lock them away within the skies; for it was the only way they could save everyone. The other refused, reminding them of their promise..to never leave the other alone.
But
What choice did they have?
With this in mind..they did it. The Guardian of the land using their power to seal away the ever growing Storm within themselves, their companion then using their power to banish them to the endless skies above, leaving them alone.
The land and ocean were safe, but the remaining Guardian only felt heavy with guilt and lost..already wanting their loving companion back at their side. But it was already done.
With a weeping heart they made the decision of putting themselves into a long slumber in the very waters they created, so that no one could ever attempt to take their power ever again, only to awaken should The Storm break free of his prison; then would the Guardian rise again to defend its world.
Folk say that's why it always rained in the area, The Sea Guardian shedding their tears to replenish the earth their friend loved so much, vowing to protect it till the day they could finally be reunited..
It was a sad story to most though there were few that believed it, a children's tale they'd say. Certainly it wasn't real and people only told it to gullible tourists.
But was it?

There was a low rumbling beneath the vast waves, whales singing soft notes of content while slowly making their way towards home for the season. It was a nice sound to listen to..
Coral lids scrunched at brightened light as their owner came closer to it, body slowly rising towards the surface, just barely opening to reveal flicks of gold peering up groggily as life moved around them in almost a trance; parting to make way for the being.
'So bright..' They thought, head tilting as an elongated hand raised towards the offending light. Fingers spreading to let cracks of daybreak peek through between them, yet they felt no warmth. Only the cool waters that surrounded them, wisps of soft white dancing in time with the fauna swimming past.
How long had they been asleep they wondered, brow furrowing as the creature's memories suddenly came back in a flow of waves, heart growing heavy and eyes suddenly growing wide; stinging with tears that never came, hand falling back to their side. So it really wasn't a nightmare was it? Of course not, how foolish of them to think as such..after all, it was them that was alone now to prove it.
They shakily let out a breath before closing their eyes again, only opening them when the light above became harsh.
'If I am awake..then that means..-' Their thoughts rang softly while raising their head towards the surface, breath catching at the realization creeping up their spine.
Eyes of gold soften when their hand once again rises, almost as if reaching for something so far out of reach. The Guardian's body felt light, yet their weeping heart didn't feel the same as they parted sharpened fangs to speak, words coming out in a hushed whisper.
"...Are you there..?"
Yet there was no reply, only silence.
