MUFFINS! Gosh I love this girl, isn't she absolutely ADORABLE! Round ponies ftw! She's looking particuarly happy here, because she loves to run, and she loves to run FAST!Previously...
Finally, here's Muffin's 2 year old season. Its actually been drawn and colored for ages now - I just hadn't written a story, because well.... you'll see. Re-did her bum so its more shiny XD Enjoy!

They all knew she was going to be fast.
They'd known it when they bought her. They'd known it when she spent the next year outrunning our other racemare in the paddock. But no one was quite prepared for how fast Muffin was.
The plan was to build up her endurance by racing her against Raven on the training track, get her started early so her bones could strengthen, and her muscles grow strong. Because for all the speed the little filly posessed, she was... well little. Miniscule. Diminutive. She wasn't even horse sized yet - some of the stable hands even said she was going to be a pony all her life. But the second she stepped out onto the track none of that mattered.
It was not until June that Muffin would be revealed to the public - but thanks to her stablemate she was already famous when she arrived at the track. Even so she managed to surprise the press - imagine their reaction when a runt of a filly emerged from the Willowglen trailer, after they had all been accustomed to Raven's towering bulk. Their jeering and teasing were short lived however, with some of the wiser reporters even predicting the results. Next morning's headline would read: "Golden Legs - She's Got Legs wins maiden in stakes record".
The Schuylerville Stakes fell in a similar fashion, with lengths to spare on a hand ride. It was not until the distance increased that any trouble began to emerge.
The GII Adirondack was a step up in company and a step up in distance. The press all hailed the filly a shoe-in, and she was the odds-on favourite at post time. The Willowglen Racing team was not so certain however, in anything over 6f Raven had caught Muffin before the line as the little filly struggled to maintain her scorching pace. They were right to be worried.
At the top of the stretch, Muffin was beginning to struggle. True to her spirit, she was never going to give up, and put on a fresh burst of speed as the course evened out. She had a two length lead in the backstretch, but now the field had begun to catch her up. Some of the horses who had tried to stick with the pace were fading - well and truly spent after what some would call suicidal opening fractions. But it was one of the pack runners who detatched herself from the rabble to challenge Willowglen's speed filly.
Muffin to her credit, fought like a demon - giving it her absolute all to try and rise to the occasion, but it would not be enough. The other filly was taller, a leggy creature with a quick turn of step. Muffin's exhausted legslasted valiantly, but she fell back a length to finish a length behind in second.
Until now the press had not seriously considered that distance might be a problem for the filly phenomenon, and all of a sudden any hopes of a repeat of Raven's three year old season were dashed. She just wasn't a distance horse, but right now there was a serious issue to overcome: controlling that scorching speed of hers so she wouldn't burn out.
The dark chestnut filly was rested until September when she would meet with destiny, and determine her fait. The 7f Darley Debutante would be the test of distance, whether she had the guts and some form of pace to last anything over six furlongs.
This time though, she did rise to the occasion. Only everything didn't quite go to plan. She absolutely roared out of the gates, leaving half of the field wondering what had just happened. Some of the better starters tried to go with her, but it was their funeral as her speed demolished all those who tried to challenge her. Easing her off in the back stretch, her jockey tempted another two hopefuls into a speed duel around the turn. Roaring down the stretch, Muffin had smashed the rest of the field, and though enxausted herself, at least she looked happy about it.
There was much celebrating that night - this season had been a cracker despite Willowglen only having two racers. There was hope too that Muffin would be able to take on some longer distances too. They had a real sprinter on their hands.
Muffin's last race of the season was scheduled for late November. The Moccassin Stakes were ungraded, and at this time of year there wasn't likely to be much comptetition either. The track was muddy from rain the night before, but everyone was still confident about the filly's ability - for once her small size would be an advantage against her heavier opponents.
Everything went like clockwork until the top of the stretch. Muffin was bounding along ahead of the field, her fractions slower than usual; it was hard to tell whether the track was to blame or whether the filly was just enjoying the mud. One second she was running without a care in the world, and the next she was crashing towards the earth.
Chaos ensued, as the pack swerved everywhich way to avoid the crash. Hooves thundered by, and the first figure to heave himself from the disater was one of the jockeys whose horse had thrown him in fright. Another horse had stumbled, and was off to the side favoring its right hind leg. Not a cheer was heard from the crowd as the remaining racers crossed the finish line - all attention was averted to the turn where it was impossible to differentiate mud-soaked forms from the ground on which they lay.
A round mud splattered shape heaved itself upright as assistance arrived, and there was a sigh of relief from the crowd. Muffin's eyes were wide as she locked onto the horses thundering past the winning post and she attempted to struggle after them. She managed to evade the track workers for a short time, but eventually she was caught and led immediately to the vetinary buidling.
Fortunately, nothing was broken. The vet said there was a strained tendons in her front right leg, possibly more damage to her shoulder as well as the leg had twisted in a hidden hole in the track. Her jockey was taken to hopsital with a concussion and bruising after being knocked by a wayawrd horse. Muffin's training would be postponed until she was declared the picture of health next season.
