Description This is an illustration for my friend\\\'s poem \\\"Pattern,\\\" for a book we are working on (the first half of her poem is at the bottom)
I was trying to make a piece like Kay Nielson\\\'s \\\"At Rest in the Dark Wood,\\\" ([link] ). She was an illustrator, I love her style- so whimsical and beautiful. Here is a lot of her work: [link]

Materials: Pencil, White Pencil, and Ox Gall Ink on Arches watercolor block (cold press)
Time: 2-3 hours (including a sketch)

Pattern
Every time the moon replaces the sun
With her hazy feminine smile
And spreads silky silver blankets
On bare roads of the earth
Remnants of the blazing afterglow fade
Depleting themselves into charcoal black
Until the North Star rises
Signaling the coming of another day.

The cycle of days and nights repeats
The process of repetition duplicate as well
Until they come infinitely close
To the forbidden flower of eternity
Locked in the formless hands of the Gods.
