Oooh I think you've made my mind up. I hadn't considered Dieppe before, because so many ferry ports are like Calais... or Dunkirk. I've never really explored much of Normandy, except when I went camping there once with small children. .. Not an ideal trip for drinking in my surroundings
Dieppe isn't far, and I already know some delightful overnight places .. so my autumn break is settled.
Have a wonderful Sunday, dear Ulrich

No, I hadn't seen this - I thought we'd missed the kite festival this year. And look - the featured nation is the UK - so it's starting to look like I'm meant to go..Some of the English translation is very endearing
Have you noticed a sudden explosion in festivals in your part of the world? When I drove around Norfolk at the weekend, there were signs for festivals and carnivals everywhere. Some, I suspect, must have just been invented
Still, a party's a party, whatever the excuse!

Well, not explosion of festivals in this part of the world
That kite thing seems to have a little tradition as well ...

it must have been such an emotive experience...! the creation of art in the artistic HMB...

m-lucia In reply to EintoeRn [2011-09-28 21:45:11 +0000 UTC]
not too obvious at first because in portuguese we have different words: "contemporΓ’nea" e "temporΓ‘ria" - it wouldn't work...
one more new sweet emoticon...!

Contemporary art AND temporary art at the same time

so an alternative for the title could be (con)Temporary Art...!

Ah yes...the wonderful sand circles! Does he go up to the cliffs and photograph his work (like Goldsworthy) when he is finished, or does he do it simply for the meditative zen experience?

The idea to create a wonderful and elegant and drawing (with a lot of physical energy) which will only last for a couple of hours . almost mythological, wouldn't you say so ?
He is also doing "drawings" of mystical sea creature on algae covered rocks (which I had noticed and adored before). It was a great pleasure to talk to him (and a great relief that his english was excellent )

RichardLeach In reply to EintoeRn [2011-09-24 18:35:49 +0000 UTC]
I certainly do agree. The Buddhist sand painting tradition comes to mind - it is similar in some ways but quite different in others. I give Philippe much credit and respect!

Very existential... Sisyphus was condemned but Philippe chooses this - and makes it beautiful.
There were a couple extra stanzas to my "Bluer than you" journal, this was one of them:
I'm blue as a bottle, I'm blue as a bone,
I'm blue as old Sisyphus rolling that stone.
I'm blue as a cop and blue as a thief.
I take all these pills and I get no relief.

EintoeRn In reply to RichardLeach [2011-09-24 18:49:36 +0000 UTC]
So true ! And great lyrics !
But can we be certain that Philippe is NOT a condemned physiotherapist ? This has happened before (reference: Douglas Adams and others)

RichardLeach In reply to EintoeRn [2011-09-24 18:54:29 +0000 UTC]
Oh! Well, yes, hmmm... that would be the sense in which we are all condemned, I suspect...
π: 0 β©: 1
EintoeRn In reply to RichardLeach [2011-09-24 18:58:00 +0000 UTC]
But physiotherapists even a little bit more? I would find this comforting tonight ....
