Description Today I am announcing my first ever NFT collection, "The Second Storm". All eight original pieces will be available on  nifty _gateway, next Thursday February 18th at 4PM PST. This is the first piece, “FLOOD”.

I'm very proud of this project, yet quite nervous to share it with you, because I believe for the work to be understood, the context of its creation must be known.

In 2017, my mum was diagnosed with cancer. She beat it, but in a later checkup the found a new kind. It had spread. Late last year she called me. She had fought so hard for so long, but her battle was coming to an end. I needed to come home.

I flew from LA to Sydney right after Christmas. Australia has some of the strictest quarantine laws in the world. I was escorted by the military from the airport to a hotel room where I would spend two weeks alone in confinement. Around the same time I landed, mum checked in to hospital for the last time.

Prior to leaving, back in October, I'd agreed to do a collaboration with the  nifty _gateway team. I figured I'd take my gear with me to quarantine, make some art, try to stay sane.

I spent those two weeks creating artwork as I sought to come to terms. To terms with mums life ending. To terms with being locked in a room with so little time left. To terms with life and death and grief and love and everything in between. I didn't intend to make art about the experience, I'd meant to just create like I had my whole life, making stuff that made me feel good to make. Once I sat down to work this series is what resulted.
