While Class 1 and Class 2 lycanthropes face basically unavoidable changes, a sufficiently skilled Class 3 can postpone his or her change for long periods of time. This is, however not advisable, as it leads to a heightened chance of sudden and uncontrollable metamorphosis.
"Taming the beast" is a common phrase, coined by some Class 3s, that refers to the act of partially shifting ones body, in order to maintain enough control over the lycantropic side, without a full change. While Class 3 are fairly rare, sometimes one can be seen morphing in public places. Once frowned upon, this practice has now become widely accepted by the human population.
