Description
Dark Tranquillity IIRed Cliff Point, off the coast of the Great Barrier Reef, Tropical North Queensland
This was taken on the roadside, on the coastal road to Cairns from Port Douglas. I looked out the window and saw this, pulled over and took a few brief shots without really paying any attention to detail to the camera settings, as I was standing on a main road. I was quite lucky the photos exposed properly, without the highlight of sunlight in the centre coming out over-blown. If I remember correctly I think I set it to aperture-priority.
A sequel to one of my old deviations, [link] I think it's a good measurement of my progress since then, I hope you agree aswell. Desaturated in PS and applied a cyan/blue hue to the image.

Gloomy but peaceful, to me it looks like we are standing there watching daylight rip through the night. I like the composition in this aswell

I underexposed the photo with the 'exposure compensation' function (most cameras, including basic point and shoots have this ) I also increased the photos contrast

This is one of the moodiest waterscape pictures I have ever seen. There's such a nice balance of color here, and the cropping really makes the viewpoint perfect. Wonderful work.

Fantastic shot Donald. The composure is great, you can feel the mood in this one. What ISO did you use when you shot this? Was it higher than 100, cause you have a little grainyness in the clouds, I get that at higher ISO's. The blue toning deffiently sets the mood for this. Keep it coming man!!

Thanks brent
I used the lowest iso setting on my d70 (iso 200), i would loved it if it had a 50 or 100 setting

Wow, a D70 only goes down to 200 ISO? My Powershot G6 goes to 50, great for low light, I know it's not a DSLR but it gets the job done

they are both amazing donald. stunning work, there really is a tranquil aura, you feel it while viewing both of these, the lighting on the clouds is beautiful.
