Description Here's my current demo reel. I'll be sending this to the head of outreach tomorrow. I had an interview with her today that went very well. I told her I finished a new shot the other day and asked if I should send her an updated reel. She liked the sound of that and will be expecting the reel on Friday.

She told me not to accept any other job offers without speaking with her first. Hopefully the Dreamworks heads of character animation will like my work as much as she did, since they're the ones who make the decision.

Working on How to Train Your Dragon would be unbelievably awesome since I LOVE dragons!

that would be cool! but what if you got stuck working on a shrek film, or the other madagascars?

also, you dont have to put the credits to your senior film in the reel too. you could just put text at the botton of the animation for what you were responsible for, and then a side note saying they can see the whole thing as an extra on your dvd reel menu, or something like that.

i would also tone down the music just a tad of the senior film part of the reel, and intergrate the music from the actual reel a little bit more before and after you start that clip.

but you dont have to take my advise, i'm just saying my two cents.

love the reel anyways great job!

Lol, I'd have to take the good with the bad. I'm also looking forward to working on Kung Fu Panda 2, especially since I wasn't able to work on the first one. I am also wary of it. I hope it doesn't ruin the original. Marilyn said some of their films are made with franchising in mind. She said audiences fall in love with the characters and enjoy seeing them again. That's completely understandable. I follow this book series which centers around the same characters and is almost 20 books long now. The key thing is having a good story to prevent the sequel from ruining the original.

Anyway, working on good and not so good projects can happen at any studio. I know I wouldn't want to work on Wall E, Toy Story 3, or Cards 2. I thought all three of those films were boring and have no desire to work on films with their characters.

Thanks a bunch for the feedback on my reel. Lol, I'm dumb and didn't think to make a movie file of my film without the credits. XD My reel doesn't have a dvd menu. >_> I've never put a menu on my reels. The guys at AM told us menus can be a hassle for HR and it's much easier and faster for them if the dvd immediately plays your reel once it's put in. How would I integrate the music better? Do I just have them play at the same time with low volume?

yeah, i really hope they dont mess up KFP2. though I saw alot of good stuff on it a siggraph this past year...then again i saw alot of good stuff of monsters vs aliens too, LOL! and that just sucked so much. it was pretty, but thats about it.

as for wall-e, i loved it up until the point where they added the people, it would have been a better movie if they had just figured out a way to keep the people out. but i loved the little dialogue and the pantomime.

as for your reel if you dont wnat to edit the file in premiere, you can just layout your animation in after effects and have the credits part fade out completely right at the credits, and just overlay with another animation where the credits would be. can help you do that if you want. its really easy.

as for the dvd menu thingy. there is a way to make it so when you first pop in the dvd it will automatically play (without going to the menu first), and you can even make it loop twice before it goes back to the menu if you want. thats what i have for mine. its really simple too.
did on the dvd creator there at the school puters.

anyways, i hope that helps.

Hmmm, I'll have to ask my sound designer for a version of the soundtrack without the music. Right now the sound effects and music are one file. I can easily cut the credits though, thanks! Did you do all of that menus stuff in Toast?

you dont need the separate file. you can just mute the music in premiere for just that one file, and then save it as seniorproject_mute or something like that.
and nah, i did it in that roxio dvd program. kovacs taught me how. just ask him, that is if youre taking him for portfolio. if not, you can still ask him.

if you want me to fix your file, i can. got all the programs right here if you can reach your sound designer in time.

Ok, thanks! Kovacs said not to put the whole film on there. I was thinking about removing it as well. Since he requires menus on reels, I'll have a link to the whole film on the menu. I'll just use a few shots from the film on my reel and leave it up to them to decide if they'd like to see the rest.
