Description
An office is a representation of the person who owns the office. A person's office, or living space, will reflect a certain aspect of its owner. An office cannot reflect the full personality of its owner, but it can do a pretty good job of it. The two offices that will be looked at here are Edmonds' and Duncan's. Their offices show that they have different personalities.Upon entering Edmonds' office, one sees that his door is covered and is not bare. It is the first sign of his office being cluttered. Even before entering his office, one can tell he is a creative person. The fact of him being neat and orderly is quickly dispersed by seeing his door. But Duncan's door is clean and indicates that Duncan is organized. The door shouts out with cleanliness. The door is an aspect of the owner's personality even though it might not appear to be when first considered.
The feeling of Edmonds' office is one of festering decay. This shows that he does not take much pride in his office and takes more pride on what he does out of the office. The motorcycle memorabilia shows that his mind is more focused on motorcycles, which are his passion. A person going into Edmonds' office will know Edmonds likes motorcycles without ever having met him. Once a person steps into Duncan's office, the feeling is that of calm and order. Her office shows that she takes pride in her job. There are bookshelves full of books and degrees. It is shown she is a family person by pictures of her family and a finger painting from a little kid. This finger painting shows Duncan's adoration of her children.
Edmonds has many pictures in his office. In fact, his office could be considered a photo gallery. The photos exemplify his love of his life outside of school. It shows him with people and also his motorcycle. His life seems to be outside of the family, as well as college. Duncan, on the other hand, still has photos but not as many. Compared to Edmonds, she has no photos at all. Her desks are L-shaped with school materials, a computer, a printer, and a few pictures. Though the pictures are few, they were enough to convince me that she was a very caring mother for her children.
Edmonds' office has a look of chaos to it, while Duncan takes a little more care to her office. Duncan has mini-chaos here and there, but her office does have order to it. Her three bookcases do not have any extra decorations unlike Edmonds. Edmonds has items that range from a plastic figure of a Tellitubby to a coffee cup. Duncan has realized that bookcases were made for books, while Edmonds has not yet found this fact useful.
Edmonds and Duncan both have offices that reflect themselves; Edmonds with his motorcycles and Duncan with her family, each has found their own passion in life. One is not better than the other, but each one seems to have a little bit of themselves in the room. Edmonds has a foreboding presence while Duncan has a warm and inviting presence.
