Description Juian took off the leaf of one herb and brought it to me. “Used to ease the pain of separation, it’s one of Ixlir’s most sacred plants.” He said to me. “All of us Flexirs use it since we always travel so far from home, and now that Sola has been destroyed it will be needed even more.”

“Were you ever considered to be a Priest of Ixlir?” Liam asked.

Juian shook his head and his eagle eyes bore down into Liam’s soul. “I have not had that honor, I have much to learn.” Juian replied.

“I was chosen early.” I said. “But each god and goddess has their own rules. To truly be a Priest of Ixlir you’d need to travel a lot. Many young people don’t do that. To be a Priest of Elixir Foin you’d need to have a great connection to Sola, I had that.”

I remembered the day I was chosen; the giant feast that was held in my honor, the friends and family that had come to celebrate. I shook my head and brought myself back to the present. Liam looked at me and nodded. A knock could be heard on the door and Juian answered it. A human male of fifty-nine looked at me. He wore the robes of Elixir Foin and his hair was white and long. “High Priest Mizak, I am honored that you have come here.” Juian said and bowed.

“I am here for Priest Nuin.” Mizak replied. “The great god Elixir Foin has given him something special.” Juian let Mizak in and Mizak came to me. He held out an egg that seemed to be made of gold and diamond. “It is Foin’s only surviving heir.”

“But shouldn’t you be taking care of the heir?” I asked. “You are the High Priest and I am just a Priest.”

“But you are the Priest that was entrusted with his daughter.” Mizak replied. “I wasn’t even given that privilege. You must be thankful that the god has given you so much. You will become High Priest someday, you have what it takes. Please accept this gift from the god.”

I nodded and took the egg. “I will watch over this heir as I once did Krystal Foin.” I said and bowed.

“I know you will.” He said and then smiled. “May you all be blessed by the flame of Eternal Justice.” Mizak said and then left.

I looked at the egg closely. The mix of gold and diamond seemed to make odd runes. “I don’t recognize these as ones I learned in the Temple of Sola.” I said and looked at them closer. “If I may be so bold, I think these are symbols of the traitor god Jian.”

Liam gasped and Juian nearly fell over. “That’s insane!” Juian squawked. “Foin would never allow ANY of Jian’s presence to touch one of his heirs. None at all!”

“What do you think Ixlir would say?” Liam asked Juian.

“I think she would say that we need to honor Foin’s last wish, but to be careful. We might lose many companions due to this.” Was Juian’s reply.

This was a mystery, why would Jian’s runes be on the egg? “A phoenix is reborn from its ashes and the destruction of Sola could be considered a great fire.” I said. “And with each rebirth comes forgiveness.”

“Are you saying what we learnt wasn’t true?” Liam asked and I just looked at the egg.

“Maybe.” I replied. “Or maybe Elixir did something to Jian before Jian became a traitor.” I walked over to my cot and sat down. “Either way, this heir is going to be a new beginning.”

“A new beginning?” Juian asked. “But why celebrate this? Maybe it is just some trickery of Sepersta.”

“If that were the case, High Priest Mizak would’ve known.” Liam replied and stared hard at Juian. “High Priests aren’t easily fooled and Mizak didn’t rise to his position from stupidity.”

I sent some fire out to form a stand for the egg. I tore off a piece of my robes to make a small cushion and then put the egg in there. “Long ago there was a tale of a ship called the Nixar.” I said. “This ship fought Sepersta and won small battles. It was lost on one mission, though. A mission of such high importance that Elixir Foin, himself, sanctioned it. The mission was to find a home for his followers. Now we are going on that same mission.” With that I made a blessing of a small flame to the egg. “I hereby name you Nixar in honor of the lost ship. I hope, with that name, you will find us a new home.”

“Will Mizak allow you to name the heir?” Liam asked with an astonished look on his face.

“He asked me to watch over it and had given it no prior name and therefore I believe it will be allowed.” I said and touched the egg. “And I have given it a name of such high importance that I think it would be allowed anyways.”

“Not to burden you, pal,” Liam said. “But people are going to be coming to this room if they find out about Nixar.” He then turned to Juian. Juian then threw up his hands and nodded. “Good. Now that we have all that figured out, does our host have any drinks?”

“I have herbal tea that I got from the Temple of Jelexon.” Juian replied. “It is very calming and gives you a sense of ease. It was given to me by a priest that wished me to take along the traditions.”

“The traditions of what?” I asked.

“The traditions of Ixlir’s Priests.” He replied.

I nodded. Ixlir’s Priests were chosen VERY selectively. Only a few were even considered. I lay down on my bed and looked at the ceiling. Women were always allowed into the service of a god or goddess, if they so desired. I felt somewhat jealous, but women were said to always be given the gentler voice. Though I knew a few examples to show the contrary, and I wasn’t afraid to use them. Priestesses always were more powerful than Priests, except in some rare cases; Mizak and I being some of the few.

Author’s Note: I had to say something about Priestesses. I never intended for men to be all powerful and I needed to set that down somewhere. I am NOT a feminist; I just don’t want this to be something male dominated and neither should it be female dominated. Later on I’ll show you more about how the Priests and Priestesses work.
