Description

The bhukas are an offshoot of the goblinoid race and claim to be descended from the first inhabitants of the world. They are slightly built and stand between 4 and 5 feet tall, with sand-colored skin and brick-red or brown hair. One of their prominent features are their large ears, who serve to dissipate heat and listen for prey and intruders, like fennecs do.

They are consummate survivors of the waste, having a talent for finding water and many physical adaptations that allow them to function in harsh environments. Their culture celebrates and preserves their ancestral ways of living.

Personality: Although they dont have a technologically advanced society, bhukas are very sophisticated people, with highly developed art and social organizations. They despise war, and try to avoid conflict whenever it's possible. They rarely approach strangers, as they prefer to watch from a hiding spot as long as possible, while assessing the intent of the newcomers in their territory.

Relations: From the beginning of their history, bhukas have been gentle creatures that others have taken advantage of. Mainly by several warrior cultures (Such as the lizardmen of Xahutecla, The Netherese Wizards or even their brutal cousins more affiliated with their deific nemesis Maglubyiet) which moved them away from the more fertile regions, forcing them to take refuge in the harsh deserts.

Although they're peaceful, You better not mistake them for cowards, as this form of exile is a source of strength for these goblinoids, who pride themselves on their ability to thrive even in the most adverse conditions. And if they are pushed too hard, they will surely reveal their more fierce side.

Despite all this, these goblinoids are willing to establish longstanding trade relationships with some villages or enclaves who are willing to trade. Exchanging food, art, items, and even anecdotes.

Society: Bhuka society is matriarchal. Each village is headed by a Grandmother, a powerful archdruid who presides over a council of elders and serves as the villages' link to their godess Kikanuti.

Religion: Bhukas worship a deity known as Kikanuti a godess of earth and fertility and presumably the last and only goblin deity not to be conquered by the god of war Maglubiyet.

Bhuka throughout the multiverse believe that Kikanuti guides them and their tribes by sending her "spirit children" to dwell among them. These spirits are embodied in sacred items, masks and tatoos, crafted by the elders, and then are carried by a holy dancer during festivals at specified times of the year (harvests, weddings, and changes of season). During the ritual, the mask's spirit possesses the dancer wearing it and is honored by the villagers with feasting and prayers.

Bhuka Lands: Bhukas are used to inhabit adobe or sandstone dwellings built above the ground, dug into the walls of cliffs and canyons, but they are also known for taking up residence within ancient ruins that are later adorned with their peculiar pottery, farms, and colorful cave paintings.  There, they live in extended family groups, called phratries.

Each bhuka village has a ceremonial pit, dug into a courtyard or sacred cave and covered with a lid of painted hides. The walls are carved with traditional symbols that depict the history and mithology of their people, as well as images of friendly spirits, underground routes and important landmarks inside the Womb (This is how they call the underdark). The most solemn rituals take place in these pits and outsiders are strictly forbidden from entering here.
