Description
The Kalshodar are the elite soldiers of The #Empyraeum , 9-10 foot giants in imposing black and silver armour. One cannot talk about the Kalshodar without also referencing #ReflexArmour , the two are eponymous; Reflex Armour is their signature, as it were.
In fact, the Kalshodar are better known as the Silver & Blacks to most citizens and have even started calling themselves that.
Few people, however, know how well-designed Reflex Armour is, and why it has not been replaced in the centuries since it was first released.
Every Kalshodar base and most Empyraen installations have something known, often without a jot of irony, as a Disarming Booth. This machine extends connectors and probes into sockets and jacks built into Reflex Armour and it is here that the true magic of the armour's design can be seen.
When connected to a Disarming Booth, Reflex Armour will "fold open" as the Dracograth Korae so eloquently describes it. The backpack/powerplant will be disconnected and pulled back, the breastplate will open at the centre, pauldrons will retract, abdominal plates fold down, greaves, bracers, and cuisses will spring open, and the helmet is lifted up and back, allowing the Kalshodar to simply step out.
The result has been described by Kalliades as resembling a well shelled lobster.
The Disarming Booth will then clean and maintain the armour, effect any repairs and replenish the reactor if needed.
Yet, thanks to its essential design and integration of thixotropic mithril into its very fabric, Reflex Armour regain its impregnable integrity when disconnected from the booth.
You can see the points of opening or articulation if you look really hard, though some are well hidden or near-invisible until active.
